Minnesota Wild vs. Las Vegas Golden Knights Prediction

After losing all five games of an East Coast trip, the Knights won their last two games, both at home, against Florida and Los Angeles. After spending most of the season in first place in the Pacific, the Knights are now flirting with a playoff spot. They hold the last Wild Card spot in the West, leading Dallas by 1 point. Vegas has dealt with injuries all season and still are. They are missing key pieces in Pacioretty, Smith, Martinez, Stone and goaltender Robin Lehner. The Knights are 16-13-1 on the road this season, where they average 3.30 goals per game and allow 3.13 goals per game. Their road Special teams are both middle of the pack.

Today is trade deadline day, and the Wild made a big splash as they acquired goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury from the Chicago Blackhawks. Minnesota also dealt Kaapo Kahkonen to the sharks, leaving Cam Talbot and MAF as their goaltenders going into the playoffs. Talbot is getting the nod tonight, and this is a big game for him. If he wants to be considered to remain the top guy he has to put forth a great effort tonight. He has had an up and down season, but is coming off 2 quality home starts in wins vs Boston and Chicago.

The Wild went 5-3 against Vegas last season, when they were division rivals, but the Knights returned the favor with a Game 7 win in the first round of the playoffs. Vegas also took both meetings this season, in Vegas, by scores of 3-2 and 6-4. Minnesota is currently 3rd in the Central, 1 point behind the slumping Blues. The Wild want to stay out of a Wild Card spot to avoid a potential first round matchup with Calgary or Colorado. Minnesota is an exceptional home team. They have a 19-7-1 home record, where they average a 2nd most 4.11 goals per game and allow 3.22 goals per game. Minnesota's home special teams do struggle, as their power play and penalty kill are both bottom 6. I am willing to look past that tonight as I expect the Wild to make a statement against Vegas. I don't like the juice on the money-line, so I am opting for the -1 line instead.
