Philadelphia Flyers vs. Buffalo Sabres Prediction: Goals Won't Be Hard To Come By on Sunday

The Philadelphia Flyers and Buffalo Sabres face off again as both teams head to Philadelphia off a 4-3 Sabres win last night. The Flyers blew a two-goal lead in the second period, so I expect them to at least attempt to take advantage of this opportunity to get vengeance for the loss the Sabres dealt them last night. Although, I can’t bring myself to back Philly on the money line given that they have lost eight of their last ten games—even against the Sabres, who have only won an unimpressive four of their last ten. Rather than risk getting burned by either of these two terrible teams on the money line, I’ll take the over.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Buffalo Sabres Prediction

The main reason this play still has value at 6.5, despite both teams being on the second leg of a back-to-back, can be largely attributed to the potential the goaltenders.  Due to the unfortunate injury of Carter Hart, the Flyers are left with Felix Sandstrom or Martin Jones, again. Obviously, I’d prefer the ladder, but I’ll settle for the former. Having already made two NHL starts this season, Sandstrom has once again been called up from the AHL to fill in the absence of Carter Hart. Both starts resulted in a Philadelphia loss, with Sandstrom allowing his opponents three goals each. It’s likely that the Sabres stick with Dustin Tokarski for this back-to-back. In Tokarski’s last ten starts, most of which have been back-to-backs, the over is 8-2. This season, Tokarski holds a 3.27 GAA, and the Sabres have been 7-11-5 behind him. Neither goalie should stand in the way of scoring tonight.

It can always be nerve-racking betting on games involving two bad teams, but both teams are in a similar situation with their weak goalies. The Flyers and Sabres struggle with their defenses, so as long as neither team’s offense suffers the effects of having played just less than 24 hours ago, the goals should start adding up. Take the over 6.5 -105
