Saturday's Best Bets: Don't Miss Slop's MLB and NHL Picks to Kick Off the Weekend
My kid is having her first communion today so you know what that means. Food, church, gambling, more food, and some drinking. It also means I'm not allowed to be on my phone pretty much all day (their rules not mine). We don't have any NBA so that's kind of clutch but there are three Game 7s in the NHL and about 1000 MLB games. Obviously, we're going to need to bet some of these but it will have to be on the low-down for me. (Down low. No doubt. Meet the Parents.)
The thing is, I don't even know what I'm betting yet since I'm a lineup guy now in MLB and I don't know shit about hockey. (Besides completely figuring out the SOG player props but I don't have time today since that takes a ton of brainpower.) So here's what I can do. I'll lay out the framework for the card here right now. And then when lineups start rolling out, we see what we have.
Boston Bruins/Carolina Hurricanes Over 6 Alt Line (+112) (Bet $100 to win $112)
You can skip this one if you want but I have to do it. We're going out after my kid's first communion. The place we're going to is in Dracut, Massachusetts. At 4:30 pm ET. Take a guess as to what is going to be on the televisions there. I literally have to bet this because it means I'll have action without having to look at my phone. Complete vet move by me. On top of that, I get to bet an over, watch it and probably win. Every single game in this series has at least reached this number. I get that it's a Game 7 and all but whatever. It's the only rational bet you can make in this game unless you're taking Carolina -1.5 +190 which you don't do in Dracut, Massachusetts.
MLB Picks and Leans
As for MLB, if you have to get down early in the day, Jake Junis O4.5 strikeouts at +120 might look good to you. It's not. The Cardinals only have three known strikeout artists. You're playing with fire there. At 4:07pm ET, the Oakland Athletics and Los Angeles Angels look like a K-fest. Paul Blackburn's over is at 4.5 +125 at DraftKings. If we see Austin Romine, Brandon Marsh, Aaron Whitefield, Andrew Velazquez, Mike Trout, Jake Mayfield and/or Tyler Wade, we could be in business.

If you want to play Jhonathan Diaz (Angels) 5+ strikeouts (+124) at FanDuel, it's not that crazy but I'm not. The Athletics strikeout a ton so there is that. The angle there is Diaz only threw 67 pitches last time out and got four Washington Nationals to whiff. They don't whiff much. If he's stretched out a little today, he could go pretty deep. Still, he had games last season where his pitch count was in the 90s and still didn't get home on 5+. I'd only play this one if you are going to the game or only have it as an option on your television.
I'm definitely playing Ryan Yarborough 4+ strikeouts (+116) at FanDuel. He won't throw 80+ pitches but we shouldn't need him to do that. The Toronto Blue Jays aren't exactly a strikeout team but we only need four here. If we get Teoscar Hernandez, Bradley Zimmer, Zack Collins, Tyler Heineman, Matt Chapman, Raimel Tapia and/or Bo Bichette, we're in business. We just need five of those guys for this to be a favorable spot. Keep in mind, 5+ is +280 and 6+ is +600.
