We have a small board here tonight with just three games on the slate. However, I do like spots in two of these games, and I am going to get our night started with my favorite total this evening.
Avalanche vs. Kraken Prediction
Seattle is not off to an incredible start record-wise this season, with just one win across the five games they have played however, I do think this team is better than their record suggests. Two of those losses came in overtime, including a game they netted four goals in against Anaheim and a very impressive game Wednesday night against the St. Louis Blues. They outpaced them and dominated a very good hockey team in the back half of the game, specifically in the third period, and had them on the ropes for a minute.
I think they are starting to gel and find their identity as a team. They are not better than 2-3 of the teams they will play this season, but they can play with pace, and that is the name of the game in the modern league. Jaden Schwartz is poised for a bounce-back season after fighting an injury last year, and they added solid pieces with guys like Andre Burakovsky in the offseason.
The defensive woes are very apparent, and in the four losses, they have conceded a combined total of 19 goals however they aren’t necessarily failing to produce on the other end of the ice, and for that reason, I like this matchup with the Avalanche tonight.
I do not think I need to talk about that team and the talent they possess. Anyone who bets on and watches hockey at all knows who they are. They are not off to the hottest start by their standards at 2-1-1 currently on the season, but the losses came to a terrific Calgary squad and Winnipeg, who stole a game from them in OT the other night.
I expect a strong performance from them this evening on home ice against an opponent they should deal with comfortably, but everything points towards the total for me in this one. Other than the lone victory Seattle had in the final meeting between these squads last year, Colorado won the first two, and the total hit easily in them.
Three of the Kraken's five games have gone over this year, and when you think about the defensive woes they have had combined with Colorado’s offensive prowess and the pace at which this game should be played, things look good for us in this one. All four of the Avalanche's games this season have gone over.
