Tampa Bay Lightning vs Buffalo Sabres Prediction

Both squads are conceding at a rate north of a 3.00 GAA and while normally totals are a bit more questionable for me with Tampa Bay, tonight it is not. One of the most key factors for them (and not taking the over in their games often) tends to be a result of the fact that Andrei Vasilevskiy is in net.

Tonight, he is not. It's Brian Elliot.

Tampa Bay tends to start slow and you can't blame them. They have been to three straight Stanley Cup Finals, and they have a right to be gassed. The defense has not been that sharp and when you combine that with them throwing their backup between the pipes tonight I really believe Buffalo will be able to produce.

Elliot is not god-awful but is no Vas by any means when he is between the pipes he is legitimately good to take a goal off the board for the other side most nights.

Elliot is sporting a 3.35 GAA and when you look at that number knowing Buffalo has the league's second-highest rate of scoring right now, I think they are going to hold their own tonight. Buffalo has been electric and it is not a fluke at this point. They have scored 77 goals in 11 games for a 4.18 GPG average.

Tampa Bay has not had that much success offensively yet this season and it can be attributed to a variety of reasons. The power play has been poor and the jump has not all been there but I am not worried about them.

I know what this team is capable of and they do as well. They will turn it on down the stretch when they need to and although I am not betting on the rest of the season in this one tonight, I always love what they will do at home. They know how to play to the situation and they are well aware they have a backup against a great offensive team tonight.

I expect them to continue to get better every game and after their three-game winning streak was snapped in OT against Carolina the other day they should be strong tonight.
