Flyers vs. Avalanche Prediction
The Colorado Avalanche (13-8-1) finish up their East Coast road trip with a game against the Philadelphia Flyers (8-12-5). Colorado is only ranked fourth in their division and eighth in its conference. While still above 0.500, the Avs haven’t looked like the reigning Stanley Cup Champions. That said, few teams’ struggles mirror that of the Flyers, who have lost 12 of their last 13 games and are ranked second to last in both the Metropolitan division and the Eastern Conference. I expect we see the Avs’ offense regain their cup-winning form and add another win to their record against this struggling Philadelphia team tonight.
I’m surprised to see Colorado at a relatively reasonable -205 on the moneyline, especially given how poorly the Flyers have played lately. I’d be wrong to say there’s no value in the money line, even at -205, but I personally prefer to avoid such heavily juiced sides. Instead, I’ve found not just one but two more affordable ways to take the Avs tonight: the three-way money line and team total over.

The Flyers’ Carter Hart started off the season strong, but has since fallen off. After picking up five consecutive wins at the beginning of the season, he’s only led the Flyers to victory in two of his 13 games since. Of his ten most recent appearances, Hart has allowed his opponents three or more goals in all but one. On the other hand, Alexandar Georgiev has found success as Colorado’s primary netminder, going 11-3-1 with a 2.58 GAA. Georgiev struggled in his last two starts, allowing 4 & 5 GA in Buffalo and Winnipeg, respectively. Although, there’s reason to believe he bounces back strong tonight.
Only averaging 2.36 goals and 28.8 shots-on-goal per game, Philadelphia’s offense is currently the worst-ranked in the NHL. As previously stated, the Flyers have also lost 12 of their last 13 games. In these 13 most recent games, they’ve only scored an average of 2.00 goals per game but allowed an average of 4.00. Not to mention, only one of their 13 home games has been decided by overtime.
