Leafs vs. Lightning Prediction
Earlier this month in Tampa, the Lighting defeated the Maple Leafs 4-3 in overtime. Tonight, we get to see these two teams face off again in Toronto. Currently ranked fourth and fifth in the Eastern Conference with 44 and 41 points, the Leafs and Lightning should provide us with another exciting matchup. Tampa is on a five-game win streak, but they'll be up against a team that's won four straight at home, where they're 11-2-3. Let's bet on another high-scoring game in this matchup between two of the top 10 offenses, especially with the over set at an even six.
We already saw the exact goaltender pairing of Matt Murray and Andrei Vasilevskiy the last time these teams played each other, so it's fair to expect a similar outcome tonight. But considering the Lightning couldn't get their win in regulation, we'll probably be better off sticking to a total.
The over has been the play for Lightning games; so far this season, at least six goals have been scored in 20 of their 30 games. These overs can be attributed to the Lightning offense, scoring an average of 3.67 goals per game. Tampa has won five straight, and they've scored at least four goals in all five of these wins. So, even if they don't get a win tonight, it's a reasonable assumption that they'll at least put up a few goals on Matt Murray again.
On the other hand, Toronto is scoring an average of 3.22 goals per game. Andrei Vasilevskiy has been on the up-and-up, recording a 1.76 GAA in his last eight games, in which he only allowed more than two goals in one. Unfortunately for Vasy, that one team was the Leafs, and I think we see a similar, less-than-stellar performance tonight.
Since last season, the Lightning and Maple Leafs have met 12 times in both the regular season and the playoffs. In these, the over went 9-3, with an average of 6.83 total goals being scored per game. Take over 6 (-115).
