Dallas Stars vs. Carolina Hurricanes Prediction: Can Jake Oettinger, Dallas Bounce Back at Home?
The Dallas Stars are having an excellent season and look postseason-bound, sitting in first place in the Central Division with 64 points. They are, however, coming off a loss at home against the Sabres, which is not a common thing for the Stars. The Carolina Hurricanes are similarly dominant, as they are in first place in the Metropolitan Division with 66 points. The Canes are coming off a road win against the Islanders and now travel from New York to Dallas to try and get their third win in a row. The Books have the Canes slightly favored in this match, as the road team is -115, while the Stars are -105 as the home team. The Canes took the only previous meeting of this season 5-4 in Carolina. Can the Stars get revenge at home? Let's get into my pick.

Dallas Stars vs. Carolina Hurricanes Prediction
The Canes have done well on both sides of the ice this season, and their balance of scoring, along with a tight defense, has contributed to their division-leading 66 points. While the offense has been good, scoring 3.2 goals per game (13th in the NHL), it is the defense that has been the best unit for the Canes. The Canes are allowing only 2.7 goals per game, which is seventh in the league. This is even with Frederik Andersen on the sidelines with an injury for chunks of time. Now, Frederik Andersen is back, and he has been excellent. Andersen is 9-3 on the season with a 2.4 GAA and a .91% save percentage. Andersen is coming off the best season of his career, as he went 35-16 in the 2021-2022 season with a 2.17 GAA. His last two starts have been clinical, as he has given up two goals in each of his last two starts against the Wild and Islanders, with the Canes winning both. The Canes are 6-1 in their last seven with Andersen in the net.
Much like the Canes, the Stars are also a well-balanced team. The offense is scoring 3.4 goals per game (seventh in the NHL), while the defense is only allowing 2.6 goals per game (second in the NHL). Jason Robertson (32 goals), Roope Hintz (19 goals), and Jamie Benn (19 goals) have all been excellent on offense this season. Roope Hintz was injured for a large chunk of January but just returned in the last game against the Sabres and got a point in his first game back.
The Star's offense works in combination with the lockdown defense led by Esa Lindell and Miro Heiskanen, who have combined for 7.2 defensive point shares and 151 blocked shots. Backing the defense is a Vezina candidate in Jake Oettinger. Oettinger is 21-12 on the season with a 2.22 GAA and a .925% save percentage. Oettinger has been feeling it lately, as he has had two shutouts over his past four games. Oettinger is even scarier at home, where he is 12-3 in regulation.

In the last article I did involving the Stars, I faded them and lost. I'm not making the same mistake again, especially on their home ice. The Stars just got Roope Hintz back, who is one of the main pieces in the offense, and the defense plays so well with Oettinger at home. One big advantage in this game is the power play unit. The Stars are only allowing a goal on 16.5% of power plays, which is 4th in the league, and the Canes are only scoring on 18.4% of their power plays, which ranks 26th. Conversely, the Stars are scoring on 26.2% of their power plays, which ranks fifth. Although Andersen is a good netminder, I will side with Oettinger when he is at home, and this price is too good to pass up. The Canes may have a better record, but they are not as dominant on the road. Take the Stars.
