New York Islanders vs. Vancouver Canucks Prediction: Betting on Goals in This Thursday Night Showdown

Vancouver is just an automatic totals team for me at good lines right now and with this matchup tonight I love it. The last five straight meetings between these two squads have gone over and after last night's bout with the New York Rangers, the Canucks are now 21-5 for the over on the road this season which is an absurdly high rate.

New York Islanders vs. Vancouver Canucks Prediction

They concede at the league's second-highest rate with a 3.89 GAA and are still among the league's best for getting the scoring started early with the best first period o1.5 percentage in the league at a 74% clip on the season cashing in 37 of their 50 games thus far and are 8-2 across their last ten. They are also the number one GIFT team in the league at the exact same split, 74% on the season, 37 of 50, 8-2 L10.

Their poor defense and goaltending are not the only reason for this though, they can still get the puck to the back of the net and rank among the league's top ten teams in scoring. New York is not a league leader in scoring and is one of the best defensive teams in the league, especially with Ilya Sorokin on home ice, however, Vancouver is a matchup that sets for both positive and negative regression.

The positive regression is I expect them to score at will, especially with Bo Horvat facing his old team for the first time and the energy from that. On the other side of things, Ilya Sorokin is coming off back-to-back shutouts and while I do expect him to play well, he is due to conceding a few and in a high-paced game with Vancouver should set that up for us.

NHL Bonus Play

With no Cale Makar for the Avalanche tonight I am willing to back the Tampa Bay Lightning to get a small piece of revenge for last year's Stanley Cup Final. Tampa Bay has dropped their last two games in rather embarrassing fashion and I think they play their hearts out in this one tonight.
