Detroit Red Wings vs. Pittsburgh Penguins Prediction: Will We See Fireworks in Detroit?

There are a few totals on this slate I have my eye on tonight, but my favorite one right now is the total in Detroit, so that is where we are heading.

Detroit Red Wings vs. Pittsburgh Penguins Prediction

Detroit has no shot at making the playoffs anymore, so with them playing on home ice tonight in one of their last few games of the season, they are now playing for the fans and pride, and I don't expect them to lay an egg.

Pittsburgh, on the other hand, is at the low end of the playoff picture but should be in; with that said, rolling over down the stretch is a dangerous game to play, and I am sure they want to secure as many points as possible and head into the playoffs in good form.

Historically, these teams play each other in a way that can only be described as slugfests. Four of the last five meetings between these squads have gone over, including a nine-goal contest earlier this season, and all four of those overs seeing a minimum of eight goals. Both squads average over three goals conceded per contest this year, and I think we see that trend continue tonight.

Both squads are starting secondary netminders tonight, and when you take that into account, along with knowing the history of the matchup, I love the opportunity for goals to be scored in bunches.

Casey DeSmith is between the pipes for the Penguins this evening, sporting a 14-15-4 with a 3.11 GAA. In comparison, Alex Nedeljkovic starts on the other side of the ice sporting a brutal 2-6-2 record to go along with a 3.83 GAA and sub .890 save percentage.
