Monday Racing Picks 09/23: Presque Isle Downs
If it’s Monday, it’s another stakes race at Presque Isle Downs in Erie, Pennsylvania.
The six-furlong $100,000 Mrs. Henry D. Paxson Memorial Stakes for Pa.-Bred two-year-old fillies has been carded as race 6 of an 8-race slate with post time scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
Lula’s Roadrunner, Mychel Sanchez, 3-1
Lula’s Roadrunner, the morning-line favorite, won in her debut over 4 ½ furlongs by a neck over Double Down Dare in a $45,000 maiden special at Parx on June 24. Then trainer Edward Coletti, Jr. raised the stakes even higher in her second start where she finished sixth over a muddy course in an 8-horse field in the Grade 3 Schuylerville Stakes at Saratoga on July 11. Sanchez returns for his third straight start and the downgrade in race will certainly help the cause. The pick.
Capital Q, Roberto Rosado, 6-1
After two unimpressive starts at Parx Racing in June and July, Capital Q notched her first career win by 5 ¼ lengths in a $75,000 maiden special race at Parx on Aug. 3. She steps up in class today for her first stakes try and will break from the rail with Roberto Rosado aboard after riding Capital Q to victory in her last. The experience against Pa.-Bred horses will help and Rosado back also upgrades the chances. Runner-up.
#9, Baby Dragon, Antonio Gallardo, 9-2
Baby Dragon, who drew the outside from post position 9, is 1-1-0 in four starts (all at Presque Isle) for trainer Teresa Connelly, highlighted by a $30,150 maiden special win with jockey Antoino Gallardo in the saddle here by ½ length over Biondetta at PID on Sept. 2. Biondetta (8-1) is also in this race today and will leave from psot position 4. Ettaplace finished third in that race and is in today’s from post position 6 with ML odds set at 8-1. Baby Dragon has the most experience in the race and that will help. In the mix.

Weed Wacker shoots for her second straight win after a $30,000 maiden special triumph by 2 ¾ lengths in her debut over today’s co-race entrant Baby Drago on August 13 at Presque Isle. Weed Wacker is coupled with Chilly Sky (post position 5) for today’s race, so a nice 2-for-1 for your betting decision making. Hangs around.
