Monday's Racing Picks 11/11: Aqueduct
Today is a day we thank and we celebrate our veterans across the country and the world for doing what they do and how they do it. You have always been win, place and show in all of our hearts and we salute you not only on this Veterans Day, but every day. Thank You!
A special Veterans Day 10-race card is on hand this afternoon at Aqueduct Racetrack in South Ozone Park, New York and we will take a look at today’s feature, a $70,000 allowance optional claiming race for state-bred 3-year-olds and up, fillies and mares over 1 1/16 miles on the turf.
A field of seven is slotted for race 9 with an approximate post time at 3:50 p.m. ET.
#3, Classic Lady, Irad Ortiz, Jr., 2-1
Classic Lady comes into today’s race in good form, finishing in the money five straight times, including three straight runner-up finishes (four overall) and one win by a solid 5 ¾ lengths in an allowance race at Belmont Park May 18. In her last, finished 2 ¼ lengths behind winner and today’s entrant Out of Trouble in an allowance optional claiming race at Belmont Oct. 4. This will be her third start at Aqueduct, with one second-place finish on April 19. Some will say she is due with her recent efforts, but she will have to make up a couple of lengths from the last over today’s entrant. I’m willing to take the chance with Irad Ortiz, Jr. in the saddle. The pick.
#1, Out of Trouble, Javier Castellano, 9-5
Out of Trouble has finished in the money in five of her last six starts this year (1-1-3) and enters today’s race looking to improve off a disappointing fifth-place finish in an allowance race at Belmont Park Oct. 26. Prior to that, she won by 2 ¼ lengths over today’s entrant Classic Lady (see above.). She is 2-1-1 in eight career starts here, but placed seventh in her last start on Nov. 30, 2018. Javier Castellano returns for his second straight start for trainer Brad Cox and with that start under his belt, I see an improve from that fifth-place finish in his last. Runner-up.
#2, Vip Nation, Kendrick Carmouche, 6-1
In 15 career starts at Aqueduct, Vip Nation is 4-0-6 with her last coming by in an allowance race on April 7 at a whopping 64-1 ($130.50)! She comes into today’s race in solid fashion with a runner-up finish in a claiming race at Belmont Sept. 12 and with a 3-length win in her last, another claiming race on Oct. 14. In the saddle for those two races, Kendrick Carmouche, who is back today for his third straight start for trainer Bruce Levine. Dangerous threat. Contender.
#7, Dynamite Kitten, Junior Alvarado, 9-2
Dynamite Kitten is looking for her first win since a ¾-length win in an allowance race art Belmont Park on June 14. In her last, she finished sixth in the $125,000 John Hettinger Stakes at Belmont Park on Sept. 22. She is 1-1-0 in four career starts at Aqueduct with one did not finish. Junior Alvarado is in the saddle today for trainer John Kimmel. In the mix.
