Race 5 Tampa Bay Downs - PICKS: 4-6-1-8

It’s a light racing day across the country, but we will take a visit to Tampa Bay Downs for a $20,200 claiming race for 3-year-old fillies going one mile on the turf. The field of 8 will go to gate for race 5 on the 9-race card with an approximate post time of 2:30 p.m. ET.

#4, Melissani, Antonio Gallardo, 7-2 Winless in four starts last year, she had her first start of the year earlier this month and scored a two-length victory as the favorite in a maiden claiming race in her first start at Tampa Bay Downs on Feb. 5. Antonio Gallardo has the mount for trainer Carlos Silva. I think she will build off her last performance and I like the chances at a good price. The pick.

#6, Teacher Drama, Samy Camacho, 3-1 - This will be her 13th career start (1-2-2) and fourth this year (0-1-0) as she looks for her second career win since a maiden claiming triumph at Gulfstream Park West on Oct. 25. This will be her fourth career start here with a runner-up finish in a claiming race on New Year’s Day. She did finish a disappointing seventh in an allowance optional claiming race on Feb. 7. She is looking for something and maybe she finds it today with Samy Camacho in the saddle for trainer Hernan Parra, but I have a feeling she will still be looking. Runner-up.

#1, Peace Taker, Pablo Morales, 5-2 - One race, one win by one length over this track as the third betting choice in a maiden claiming race on Feb. 5. Pablo Morales has the mount for trainer Dale Bennett. Let’s see if she can make it two straight. Contender.

#8, Jackie’s Dream, Tomas Mejia, 4-1 She has finished in the money in three career starts here this year (1-1-1), including a third-place finish in her last in a starter optional claiming race on Feb. 9. A start prior, she won a maiden claiming race by a half-length as the second betting choice on Jan. 17. Tomas Mejia is in the saddle for trainer Michael Dini. She certainly feels at home here and she could get it done at a nice price. In the mix.
