PICK: #1 Nadal (Race 10 - G2 Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park)

#1, Nadal, Joel Rosario, 5-2

Stretching out over two turns for the first time, Nadal comes into today with a perfect 2-for-2 record, highlighted by a ¾ of a length triumph in the Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes in his last start at Santa Anita on Feb. 9. Joel Rosario is in the saddle for trainer Bob Baffert, who has captured six Rebel Stakes victories.

Verdict: The pick

#4, Silver Prospector, Ricardo Santana, Jr., 7-2

He has won both graded stakes starts in his career: Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes at Churchill Downs on Nov. 30 and the Grade 3, $750,000 Southwest Stakes here on Feb. 17, in which he posted a career-high Beyer Figure of 97. This will be his ninth career start (3-0-2). Ricardo Santana, Jr. has the mount for trainer Steve Asmussen, who also has my third choice, Basin.

Verdict: Runner-up.

#3, Basin, Javier Castellano, 3-1

Basin, who also is going two turns for the first time, enters today with a win in the Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga on Sept. 2. Javier Castellano is in the saddle for trainer Steve Asmussen, who has won four Rebels previously.

Verdict: Contender
