Our racing handicapper looks to continue his red-hot streak in March with picks at Will Rogers Downs
ANALYSIS

PICK: #6 Trumpence (Race 5 - Will Rogers Downs)

#6, Trumpence, Jose Medina, 5-2

He makes only his second start of the year and his seventh career (4-1-0). He finished sixth in his last start in the Stonerside Sprint Stakes at Sam Houston Park on Jan. 26. A start prior, he won an allowance race by three lengths at 23-1 odds ($46.80) in an allowance race at Remington Park on Dec. 14. Jose Medina gets the call for trainer Kenneth Nolen. I think he returns right back to form today in his second career start here, taking home a maiden claiming win in his debut on May 20.

Verdict: The pick

#5, Miltontown, Ty Kennedy, 5-1

He is making his 15th career start (2-0-0) after two straight fourth-place finishes at Delta Downs in February. He looks for his first win since a claiming race at Churchill Downs on May 25. Two starts after that, he finished 12th in the Grade 3 Canadian Derby at Century Mile on Aug. 18. Taking a shot for an in the money finish in his first start here. Ty Kennedy is in the saddle for trainer Robertino Diodoro.

Verdict: Runner-up.

#1, Taruca, Floyd Wethey, Jr., 2-1

The veteran makes his 28th career start (7-6-5) and his third this year (1-1-0). He has finished in the money in seven straight and eight of his last nine starts, including a win in his last by a neck as the favorite in a starter optional claiming race at Sam Houston Park on Feb. 29. Floyd Wethey, Jr. has the mount for trainer Ray Ashford, Jr. He should be right there at the end.

Verdict: Contender.

PICKS: 6-5-1
