Picks and predictions for Monday's meet at Mountaineer Park

Our lead Horse Racing handicapper John DaSilva previews the racing at Mountaineer Park on Monday, he's got three picks to start your week with a bang.

Race 5 – Pick #6 Comica (4-1 ML) - Click here to bet with TVG

Occasionally, there is a race that when you are looking at it your gut tells you; chaos is going to happen. There looks to be plenty of speed in this race that would set things up for a closer. Comica is a horse that has shown success coming off the pace. The Shane Meyers trainee ships in from Thistledown and drops in class for his first start since October. He finished third in his only start at this distance and Meyers is a trainer that knows how to read the condition book to find good spots for his horses.

Race 8 – Pick #5 Destiny’s Darling (7/2 ML) - Click here to bet with TVG

Ships in from Kentucky to make local debut and steps up in class to race in conditioned allowance. Normally we do not like horses stepping up in class but at a track like Mountaineer it really does make that much of a difference at this level. Last time she ran in a conditioned allowance race she finished second by a head at Ellis Park. She is versatile enough with her running style that she could be on the lead or stalk the pace.

Race 9 – Pick #5 My Time to Shine (5-1 ML) - Click here to bet with TVG

Cuts back in distance after tiring in the slop in a non-winner of three lifetime race last out. My Time to Shine gets a positive Jockey switch and should get a good pace to close into versus these. She closed well and was beaten two lengths while going shorter two back in her last start versus horses that had not won a race in a year.
