Tuesday Racing Picks: Churchill Downs

Three picks at Churchill Downs from John DaSilva on Tuesday: 

Race 6 – Pick #1 Snaggletooth (6-1 ML) - Click here to bet with TVG

It has been said that Corey Lanerie is a clone of Calvin Borel. He is a Cajun jockey that loves riding the rail. Some even call him Calvin Borel Jr. because of that. At Churchill Downs, where Calvin became a legend with his rail riding efforts, Corey in the past year is 9 for 44 (20%) when he breaks from the rail and in the money his record is 30 for 44 (68%). Here he is aboard Snaggletooth. The horse comes off a victory at Colonial Downs when dropped to the lowest claiming level of his career. While he was hard used throughout to win that race, the fractions were slow and he is probably going to come off the pace here, especially with Lanerie riding. He should be an overlay at post time and with Lanerie aboard, always pay attention to the rail in the stretch.

Race 8 – Pick #5 Silver N Lai (9-2 ML) - Click here to bet with TVG

The Churchill Turf course should be in great shape after not being used as much as usual this spring. This should mean the turf will probably be speed favoring. Silver N Lai is the main pacesetter of the race. In his seasonal debut, he set the pace and finished second at Indiana Grand. He now makes his first start outside of Indiana Grand for Tom Amoss and gets James Graham to ride. They should go to the front and keep going for the victory versus these.

Race 9 – Pick #12 Satchel de Riches (12-1 ML) - Click here to bet with TVG

After a failed attempt at Ellis Park when making his turf debut in allowance company and first start for Mike Maker, Satchel de Riches makes his first start versus conditioned claimers while returning to dirt. He stalked the pace and finished second in the mud in conditioned allowance two back. He has never finished off the board in four career starts on dirt and he comes in with a good work for this spot. Tyler Gaffalione picks up the mount.
