Wednesday Racing Picks: Churchill Downs

John DaSilva previews Wednesday's meet at Churchill as we get closer and closer to the Derby. 

Race 4 – Pick #4 Designing (8-1 ML) - Click here to bet with TVG

After running her best race since March 2019 on turf at Gulfstream, Designing drops in class to face conditioned claimers for the first time while making local debut. She was further off the pace than usual and she finished with good energy to be third at Belterra in the slop. With class relief for her local debut on a track listed as sloppy, she should employ similar tactics as last out and get up in time for the victory.

Race 5 – Pick #11 Beyond Gone (7/2 ML)​​​​​​​ - Click here to bet with TVG

There looks to be plenty of speed in the race so a good trip will be needed to win the race. Beyond Gone is a Ken McPeek trainee returning from Gulfstream. She drops in class after tiring to fourth as the favorite while going longer in July. He is a three year old and the only horse in the race that fits the condition despite winning more than two races in his career. He does have a victory in the slop at this distance in April.

Race 10 – Pick #8 Can Imagine (12-1 ML)​​​​​​​ - Click here to bet with TVG

Cuts back to a sprint after tiring going a route on turf this level at Ellis Park in his last two starts. He does have experience on an off track, having set the pace and tired in the slop over this course in May when making career debut. He has worked well since his last race and the return to dirt and the experience under his belt should be enough to give him the improvement and break his maiden
