TVG racing expert Emily Shields is back this week with picks for Saturday's races at Woodbine
ANALYSIS

Racing at Santa Anita Park returns this weekend live on TVG with a spectacular weekend adorned by 12 stakes races, including seven Breeders’ Cup Win and You’re In events. Horses such as Maximum Security, Improbable, United, and Princess Noor are all making their final starts before their Breeders’ Cup engagements, but such quality racing action means a few upsets are likely to occur.

Race 1 - $75,000 Unzip Me Stakes - Click here to bet with TVG

#4 Bulletproof One (5-2) has been a special sort since her debut, but she can throw a clunker every now and then. The six-time winning sprinter has faced males more than once, and has won on all three surfaces, but is coming in off a sixth-place as the favorite at Del Mar last out. #2 Mind Out (6-1) has been knocking on the door for a nice win after being second in three straight races. Longshot Play: #7 Moonhall Milly (8-1) is coming in off a nose victory at Del Mar over a mile, has only been worse than third once, and loves this course.

Race 3 - $200,000 Chandelier Stakes (G1) - Click here to bet with TVG

Best Bet of the Day: #1 Princess Noor (2-5) is expected to romp here over a short field that includes two stablemates. She is an unbeaten Grade 1 winner and a favorite for the Breeders’ Cup in early November.

Race 5 - $100,000 Speakeasy Stakes - Click here to bet with TVG

This wide-open field of nine has a lot to like. #9 Feathers (12-1) is a big price making her first start for Peter Miller, who nearly won this race last year with filly Bulletproof One. This will be Feathers’ first start in the United States, and the horse that she defeated in her maiden came back to win next out.

Race 7 - $300,000 Rodeo Drive Stakes (G1) - Click here to bet with TVG

#2 Maxim Rate (4-1) is rounding into form with two straight wins after being a classy type her whole career. She was second by a nose here in graded company, then won a Grade 3 over a mile last year. She has only been worse than second on this turf course once in her career. #4 Mucho Unusual (5-1) is quite the price after doing some of her best running here, and just got beat a zop last out at Del Mar. #3 Bodhicitta (5-2) is the play if you can get anything higher than 5/2; she loves this course and is coming off a huge win.

Race 8 - $300,000 American Pharoah Stakes (G1) - Click here to bet with TVG

Play of the Day: #8 Waspirant (6-1) puts blinkers on after a nice maiden win over a mile, and is the only horse in the field with a two-turn win. He is by Union Rags and out of Breeders’ Cup winner Life is Sweet for trainer John Shirreffs, who won this race in 2016.

Race 9 - $200,000 John Henry Turf Championship (G2) - Click here to bet with TVG

It is hard to see past #3 United (6-5), who has won three of four this year with a head loss last out. He was second beaten a head in the Breeders’ Cup Turf here last fall. On the outside, #8 Oscar Dominguez (8-1) can prove a solid play underneath as he has been top three on this course 12 times and should be a price.

Race 10 - $300,000 Awesome Again Stakes (G1) - Click here to bet with TVG

Not much separates #5 Maximum Security (3-5) and #2 Improbable (9-5). They are both stars in the primes of their career, and hail from the same barn. I will give the nod to Maximum Security as simply the better horse. #3 Sleepy Eyes Todd (12-1) is a neat play underneath as he ships in off a big win in the Charles Town Classic (G2) and has won half his 12 starts.
