John DaSilva is backwith OddsChecker and looking to start the week in style at Presque Isle.
Race 1 – Pick #3 Malarkey (3-1 ML) - Click here to bet with TVG
At first glance, one would wonder why Linda Rice, one of the top trainers in New York, has horses at Presque Isle Downs. The answer is simple, she is helping to support her family. The Rice family has been horse racing for many years, beginning with the patriarch Clyde Rice. Linda’s brother Wayne is based a Presque Isle as well as her two nephews Adam and Kevin. So, whenever she runs a horse a Presque Isle, is usually beaten taking care of by a family member. Malarkey comes off a victory as the favorite at this level while going shorter last out. He has shown to have taken a liking to the Tapeta surface so a repeat visit to the winners circle is expected.
Race 3 - #5 Stuck Up (8-1 ML) - Click here to bet with TVG
After being based at Delaware for most of the summer, Stuck up relocated Presque Isle in late August. He ran at this distance and level earlier this month and finished well to be a close fourth. He comes back and there looks to be more early speed that he can take advantage of and get up in time for the victory. While I expect him to be lower than the morning line at post time, I suspect it will be higher than the 9/2 he went off at last out
Race 6 – Pick #8 Big Rig (8-1 ML) - Click here to bet with TVG
Two starts back, Big Rig stalked the pace and finished third at this distance and level at 8-1. He then stepped up in class while cutting back in distance and finished third again. Now returns to the distance and level he competed at two back. There is not much quality speed in the race so he should be able get a good stocking trip and take over when the speed tires in the stretch.
