Race 6 – Pick #2 Get the News (8-1 ML) - Click here to bet with TVG
When returning to dirt from the turf and dropping in class to lowest claiming level of career, Get the News showed the ability to stalk the pace successfully and finish well to be second. But now he drops in class again off that race. While it can be perceived as a negative, trainer Louis Capi is trying to get a victory here. Fort Erie meet ends on the 13th and Capi usually takes winter off. This is a 5YO gelding so if he loses via claim but gains a victory, it is a won win situation for him. So it is a risk worth taking. Anything close to that morning line is an overlay worth taking advantage of.
Race 7 – Pick #6 Giantballs of Fire (5-1 ML) - Click here to bet with TVG
After breaking his maiden locally going two turns at seven furlongs on August 17th, Giantballs of Fire cut back in distance to five furlongs, which is one turn at Fort Erie on September 21st. He didn’t have the best of trips and ran evenly. But that race I suspect was more for workout purposes as he comes back in eight days, steps up in claiming price and returns to a two turn mile turf race. The pace should be solid enough for the gelding (insert your joke about his name) to take advantage of and get up in time for the victory.
Race 8 – Pick #3 Dotted Line (8-1 ML) - Click here to bet with TVG
In the Queen’s Plate, Mighty Heart, the one eyed wonder, showed improved early speed to set the pace and draw off to an impressive 7 ½ length victory. He may try those tactics again, but Justin Stein on Dotted Line will have something to say about that. In the Queen’s Plate, Dotted Line chased the slow pace and basically ran an even race. He has shown success setting the pace in the past so Stein will try those tactics here. There isn’t much quality early pace in the race so he should set relaxed fractions and pull the upset in the middle leg of the Canadian Triple Crown, the Prince of Wales Stakes.
