While the racing world waits for the 2020 Breeders’ Cup at Keeneland, there is still plenty of stakes action to watch and wager on this coming weekend.
Belmont Park, Race 6 - $175,000 Empire Distaff - Click here to bet with TVG
Best Bet of the Day: #2 Ratajkowski (2-1) is four for five over the track and is the defending champion. She hasn’t run since August, but trainer Graham Motion will have her prepped for this to defend her crown.
Belmont Park, Race 10 - $175,000 Empire Classic - Click here to bet with TVG
Little separates the two big horses, who drew alongside each other: #2 Mr. Buff (5-2) and #3 Funny Guy (2-1). They both drop out of much tougher company, with Funny Guy scoring in their one meeting this year. But Mr. Buff has faced the highest level of Breeders’ Cup Classic hopefuls, and won a stakes race earlier this year by 20 lengths.
Laurel Park, Race 11 - $150,000 Maryland Million Classic - Click here to bet with TVG
This is a fantastic card of Maryland-bred action, which will draw a lot of handle and is worth your time. #5 Harpers First Ride (8-5) will be tough to beat off a Grade 3 win, and two straight scores with six wins in seven starts on the track. But #7 Top Line Growth (2-1) is unbeaten in four tries here, and won two of his last three by open lengths.
Santa Anita, Race 8 - $100,000 Senator Ken Maddy Stakes (G3) - Click here to bet with TVG
#5 Magic At Midnight (9-5) is unbeaten in four starts for trainer Mark Glatt. The lightly-raced filly can win on both surfaces, and will be piloted again be Abel Cedillo. This is her toughest test by far. #6 Aqua Seaform Shame (4-1) was second a zippy fily last out in Bulletproof One, and is otherwise two for three in turf sprints. Longshot Play: #4 Lakerball (15-1) returns off a layoff since March 8. The daughter of Lakerville was a stakes winner on this course two years back, and was fourth over this trip earlier this year before she went to the sidelines.
Woodbine, Race 10 - $400,000 Breeders’ Stakes - Click here to bet with TVG
While all eyes will be on #8 Mighty Heart (even) as he seeks to win the Canadian Triple Crown, his stablemate #9 Belichick (7-2) is bred for the surface and distance. Other horses to watch include #11 Told It All (12-1) and #12 Muskoka Giant (20-1), with #2 Enchant Me (50-1) worth using as a show bet or in your superfectas, as he is also bred up and down for the grass.
Monmouth Park, Race 5 - $75,000 Smart N Classy Handicap - Click here to bet with TVG
#9 Stay Smart (2-1) is four for seven over the course, and comes off a win here September 20 for trainer Kelly Breen. #6 Groovy Surprise (3-1) could round out a chalky exacta; she has never been worse than third here in seven starts and has been running steadily all year.
