TVG racing expert Emily Shields is back this week with picks for Saturday's races around the country
ANALYSIS

With the 2020 Breeders’ Cup just one week away, the October 31 card at Belmont Park in New York boasts three stakes races, topped by the $100,000 Bold Ruler Handicap (G3), won last year by Champion Maximum Security.

Race 5 - $80,000 Maiden Special Weight- Click here to bet with TVG

A field of very well-bred and well-regarded two-year-old maidens is set to run seven furlongs on the main track. #3 Liam’s Missy (7-5) was second at Monmouth Park sprinting on debut, beaten just under five lengths as the favorite. Watch the price on the daughter of Liam’s Map and see if value can be found elsewhere, such as with #6 Journeytothemoon (7-2), a debut runner from the Michael Trombetta barn who is likely to eventually want turf. Don’t ignore Longshot Play: #1 Treasure Lane (6-1) who was sixth on debut and well beaten, but the well-bred daughter of Quality Road is trained by Shug McGaughey and gets a top rider in her second start.

Race 6 - $80,000 Zagora Stakes- Click here to bet with TVG

This is a wide-open race with six of the nine runners at less than 10-1 odds on the morning line. #2 Mutamakina (5-2) makes her United States debut after running in Group 1 company in France over the summer; the same trainer also starts #5 Olympic Games (5-1) who was second here in her only try back in July. On the rail is #1 Beau Belle from the Tom Albertrani barn; although she hasn’t won of late, she gets class relief here dropping out of Grade 1 company.

Race 7 - $72,000 Allowance- Click here to bet with TVG

It is hard to get a read on #2 The Last Ace (6-1), who romped so impressively on debut in February and then was off until June and ran last, well beaten as a 3-1 shot. He’s been off since then again, but has worked well for his return and he picks up Jose Ortiz.

Race 8 - $80,000 Awad Stakes- Click here to bet with TVG

This turf stakes drew 13 entries, with the Play of the Day: #12 Wootton Asset (4-1) drawn outside the field. A stakes horse in France, he was second by a nose here on debut, beaten by Catman who is also in this race. #7 Space Launch (5-1) was a very nice debut winner here in September, while #3 Like a Saltshaker (8-1) has won two in a row, including a stakes race in Pennsylvania.

Race 9 - $100,000 Bold Ruler Handicap (G3) - Click here to bet with TVG

While #6 Phat Man (2-1) is the deserving favorite, the stakes winning gelding hasn’t run since February and may need a start off the extended layoff. #1 Mihos (4-1) draws the rail here in search of former glory; he once beat top horse Code of Honor but has struggled since with just one win this year. #2 Share the Ride (5-2) drops out of Grade 2 stakes company and was a sharp winner at Monmouth Park in September.
