Saturday Racing Picks: Aqueduct
A blockbuster card of stakes action is slated for December 5 at Aqueduct in New York. There are four graded events worth $650,000, topped by the Grade 1 Cigar Mile for older horses.

Just five horses will contest the nine-furlong Remsen Stakes, which often produces a top contender for the Kentucky Derby. #5 Ten for Ten was a smashing maiden winner in October, then ran second as the favorite in the Grade 3 Nashua here on November 8. He gets to stretch out further today; the son of Frosted should love that. #1 Pickin’ Time is the horse that beat him last out, and was 9-1 in his Nashua win. Before that he took a sprint stakes race at Monmouth Park. Longshot Play: #3 Brooklyn Strong is a New York-bred facing open company, but he was a good stakes winner last out over a mile.

This is a wide-open race. #3 Sharp Starr was an impressive allowance winner last out over this same trip, but she finished off the board in her lone graded appearance before this. #2 Portal Creek has won two in a row in Pennsylvania. #1 Nonna Madeline was a stakes winner for trainer Todd Pletcher two back, and has had a strong year with a stakes win at Saratoga in August.
Race 9 - $150,000 Demoiselle Stakes (G2) - Click here to bet with TVG
Best Bet of the Day: #1 Malathaat is unbeaten in two starts for trainer Todd Pletcher. She is one of three Curlin daughters in the race, and cost over $1 million. She has since run to that hype, scoring by nearly eight lengths in the Tempted Stakes here in November. #3 Millefeuille just missed in her debut, then won by four going a mile last out for trainer Bill Mott, and sports a royal pedigree. #6 Cafe Society broke her maiden in style in October, then ran third as a strong choice here in the Tempted, but should rebound for trainer Shug McGaughey.
Race 10 - $250,000 Cigar Mile Handicap (G1) - Click here to bet with TVG
The horse everyone is talking about this week is #1 Performer, who is riding a five-race win streak but has only one start in 2020. He has never tried this level of company. #4 Firenze Fire was third in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint most recently, and won a Grade 2 at Belmont in September. Longshot Play: #2 Mind Control is four for five over this surface, and returns to a mile where he won the Jerome Stakes in 2019.
