RB Leipzig

The German football season kicks off this Saturday when Cup winners RB Leipzig take on Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

Back in December 2021, after failing to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages and a poor start to the Bundesliga campaign, RB Leipzig fired American coach Jesse Marsch replacing him with former Schalke and Spartak Moscow coach Domenico Tedesco. The Italian-German football manager guided the team to the DFB Pokal title.

Christopher Nkunku completed the season of his career and was named the Bundesliga player of the year last season and the French forward will play a key role to help RB Leipzig defeat Bayern Munich. In the Bundesliga alone, he managed 20 goals and 13 assists in 34 games. That stretched to 35 goals and 20 assists in 52 matches across all competitions. He was linked with the top teams in Europe but decided to stay at least one more season in Germany.

Leipzig played just two friendly matches this summer, beating Southampton 3-1 with Angelino, Forsberg, and Moriba contributing on the scoreboard but they were trashed 5-0 last week by Liverpool, recording just two shots on target. RB Leipzig's Yussuf Poulsen sustained a muscle injury while on international duty with Denmark, and he is unfit to play any part on Saturday.

They lost many of their key players during the summer transfer window: Tyler Adams to Leeds, Hee-chan Hwang to Wolves, Brian Brobbey to Ajax, and probably the most important one, Nordi Mukiele to Paris Saint-Germain. They only signed Xaver Schlager from Wolfsburg so far but they still have one more month to add some extra quality to their squad if they want to fight Bayern Munich for the title.

Bayern Munich

As we all know, the Bavarian giants lost their goal-machine Robert Lewandowski, who signed with Barcelona. They signed Sadio Mane from Liverpool who won the African Player of the Year Award, Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus, Noussair Mazraoui, and Ryan Gravenberch from Ajax, and Mathys Tel from Rennes.

Bayern enters this clash on the back of a 1-0 defeat to Man City in the pre-season friendly with the only goal of the match being scored by former Dortmund striker Erling Haaland. For the first time since 2013, Bayern will be starting a season without Robert Lewandowski. Sadio Mane is expected to lead the line as he looks to kick off his time in Munich with a goal.

Julian Nagelsmann's side looks set to dominate German football for another year although the curtain raiser to the season should have plenty of goals. The last four clashes between these two sides have brought 21 goals with Bayern enjoying plenty of success in their mutual encounters. RB Leipzig has not been capable of competing with the Bavarian giants with their last win coming back in 2018.

RB Leipzig vs. Bayern Munich Prediction

Bayern has won their last three head-to-heads against RB Leipzig scoring eight goals in the process. They enter this clash as favorites being priced at -105 with Unibet, a great price for our betting needs. The goal-line is set at 3 with the overs being priced at -140 with Bet365.

Domenico Tedesco has galvanized RB Leipzig, no side picked up more than their 36-point haul after the winter break. Bayern Munich lost Robert Lewandowski so they much now adapt to a new system and they will probably need some time to achieve this objective.

It isn’t often that you find Bayern priced up to win any game at -105 so we will definitely take that. RB Leipzig will probably contribute on the scoreboard and we will see at least three goals in the match. For better odds, we will combine the moneyline with the goals market. On top of that, Serge Gnabry is the player to watch and bet on to find the back of the net.

Alex Campean has been a soccer fan since 1990 when he watched the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy. He knows everything about the top 5 European leagues, Champions League and Europa League and he is well known for his “trade-mark” “Alex Classic” bet (both teams to score and over 2.5 goals in the match). He’s very disciplined, follows a strict set of rules, and has great bankroll management. He’s our European soccer specialist and he's having an average of 55 units of profit in the last 7 years with his soccer picks. He’s all about positive energy, respect, and long-term profit and if you ever hear “Alex’s last-minute goal” that means he did it again winning a bet in the last minute of the game, so never lose hope.
