Ronaldo prepares to take centre stage once again.
What a cracking Champions League tie this is. Ajax will feel they should be taking a lead to Turin for this second-leg clash against Juventus due to their dominance in Amsterdam, but the 1-1 still leaves this one nicely poised.
Juve’s incredible 3-0 win against Atletico Madrid to overturn a two-goal deficit highlights the magnitude of the task Ajax face; but then again, humiliating Real Madrid 4-1 on their own turf isn’t exactly the sign of a weak team. Whatever happens, it’ll be fascinating.
Though Juventus have failed to win just three of their 20 home games in all competitions, I do believe Ajax will trouble them when going forward – particularly if they perform like they did at the Bernabeu. Backing any sort of result probably isn’t worth your while, however, particularly because Juve are a rather unappealing -137.
Where this tie is won or lost may well hinge on the contributions of one man: Cristiano Ronaldo.
There’s little point waxing lyrical about Ronaldo, simply because all superlatives which best describe him have been truly exhausted. He scored the crucial away goal in the first-leg for Juve, and you wouldn’t put it past him to bang in another wonderful hat-trick like we saw against Atleti.
Ajax haven’t kept an away clean sheet in the Eredivisie in eight matches, so although they’re clearly fantastic going forward, there’s a decent likelihood Juve will pick them off.
We all know the Champions League is Ronaldo’s competition, and priced at +240, my best bet is for Portuguese maestro to score a brace.
