Thomas Tuchel already looks like the right man for Chelsea. Since he arrived at Stamford Bridge he has implemented a style of play and an identity on the Blues, who had looked devoid of any structure under Frank Lampard.

One thing we've seen under Tuchel at Chelsea is that he's patient and pragmatic. He likes to control possession and take minimal risks, preferring to build good quality attacks and rely on converting those.

His priority in this game will be to get back to London with the game still in the balance. Chelsea won't be going out gung-ho as chasing goals, this is all about keeping it tight and ensuring that they'll be ready to pounce in the second leg.

Does that philosophy sound familiar? It should. It Thomas Tuchel is pragmatic than Diego Simeone is positively defensive. It's certainly true that his and Atletico's style this season has become more expansive but I think we'll see a revertion to type here.

Atletico have sleepwalked in recent games and look in danger of choking La Liga, which they looked almost certain to win just one month ago. Luis Suarez looked his age midweek, despite being one of Europe's best signings beforehand. Joao Felix too has lost some of the sparkle that he had at the start of the season, in which he looked like the third of soccer's bright young things alongside Mbappe and Haaland.

With that form in mind I think Simeone will aim to keep things tight, hopefully getting a goal to take into the second leg. I just can't see this being a highscoring game. Under 2.5 goals is a pathetic price and we won't be backing it. Instead we'll take over even money for it to be a draw at halftime, and an extra little bet that it'll finish 0-0.

One thing to remember when betting this game is that leopards don't change their spots. Back the cautious managers to stick to what they know when it comes to crunch time.
