UEFA Champions League Futures: 2021/22 Betting Picks
The craziest transfer window is finally over. Leo Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Romelu Lukaku, Antoine Griezmann are just some of the big names who changed teams during this full of drama summer. It’s time for the best teams in Europe to compete for the Champions League trophy. Eight groups, 32 teams, and just 16 knock-out spots. Who will qualify further, who will win their group or reach the final? Here are our best futures for this season.
To Reach the Final: Chelsea at +400
Paris Saint-Germain is the favorite to win the trophy after signing Leo Messi and keeping Kylian Mbappe and Neymar. Their deadly attacking trio should be able to deliver, but you never know with PSG as they are very inconsistent, so there’s no value on that market.
Last season’s winners, Chelsea, are 4th favorites to lift the trophy for the 2nd consecutive year, priced at +900. Thomas Tuchel did a fantastic job revitalizing Chelsea, leading them to a superb European campaign. In addition, they enjoyed a great transfer window, being the of the few teams capable of spending big and improve their squad.
Romelu Lukaku returned to the team after winning the Serie A title, with Inter Milan being outstanding for the entire season. He possesses that killer instinct in front of goal, he can outpace any defender in his sight, he’s powerful, and not only can he score important goals, but he can also assist.
Chelsea’s is probably the most consistent and the most balanced Premier League team. They have world-class players all over the pitch and a great bench. The squad depth is fantastic, and they can easily handle both Champions League and domestic league. It’s very tough to score against them as they are very organized at the back.
They have been drawn in a favorable group with Juventus, Zenit, and Malmo, and they should easily top this group and qualify in the last 16. The squad, balance, philosophy, and game-plan are top-notch, so we expect them to reach the final, and the price is terrific (+400).
Group G Winner: Sevilla at +150
Group G teams: Lille, Sevilla, Salzburg, Wolfsburg. This group is relatively balanced, with all four teams having a chance to qualify in the knock-out stages. Last season, Lille pulled off a massive upset by winning the French Ligue 1, but they lost their manager and 3 of their most important players (Boubakary Soumare, Mike Maignan, and Luiz Araujo). The squad depth and the experience at this level will play an essential role in their UCL campaign. However, we don’t expect them to qualify further.
Wolfsburg impressively finished 4th last year in the German top-flight league, and not only they kept their leading players, but they also signed another important striker, Luca Waldschmidt from Benfica. They kicked off their Bundesliga campaign in style with 3 wins in a row, but it will still be tough for them to adapt to this UCL schedule. They have a great chance to qualify further in the tournament, but they will probably do it as runners-up.
Sevilla, finishing fourth in La Liga, just two points behind Barcelona. They have assembled a good squad to fight for their objectives and consolidate themselves as a Champions League team. A balanced high-level squad, very competitive, and we expect them to finish 1st in their group.
Parlay at +146: Chelsea and Dortmund to Top Their Groups
We talked about Chelsea and their value, but why do we consider Dortmund, a potential group winner? They have been drawn in Group C together with Sporting, Ajax, and Besiktas. Dortmund and new coach Marco Rose go into the new 2021/22 Bundesliga season looking to stop Bayern’s domination in Bundesliga, but the Champions League is significant too.
After losing Jadon Sancho, the main signings so far in terms of players are those of goalkeeper Gregor Kobel and forward Donyell Malen. Erling Haaland staying for one more season is probably the most important news for Dortmund. He’s a goal machine, and we expect him to score even more goals for the German giants this season. Their teenage talent is crucial for the team: Gio Reyna, Jude Bellingham, Youssoufa Moukoko, and experienced players like Marco Reus or Axel Witsel. We expect them to top their group and earn at least 12 points from a possible 18.
