Villarreal pulled off the upset in the previous round beating Juventus 4-1 on aggregate while Bayern Munich trashed Salzburg, beating them 8-2 after the two legs.

The hosts have enjoyed a superb Champions League campaign but this should be the end for the Spanish side. Villarreal has lost three of their last five matches in all competitions and now go up against an experienced Champions League side full of world-class players.

Let’s be honest, Juve was the better side in both legs but failed to convert their scoring opportunities. Under Unai Emery, Villarreal is a defensive side. The Spanish manager loves to organize the team well defensively, to press but without going all in, and to attack but not at the expense of his positional system.

Let’s not forget that Villarreal managed to win the Europa League trophy last season beating Man United on penalties in the final. They have a near fully available squad at their disposal being only without left-back Alberto Moreno, who is recovering from a cruciate ligament rupture.

Villarreal has failed to keep the momentum going following their amazing win on the road against Juventus, following up a 1-0 and a 2-0 defeats to Cadiz and Levante respectively, two teams fighting to avoid relegation in their domestic league.

Bayern and Villarreal faced each other for the very first time in the group stage of the 2011/12 UCL season, with the Bundesliga champions securing a 2-0 win away from home before a 3-1 success in Germany. Bayern Munich is unbeaten in its last six fixtures winning four in the process and scoring four goals in each of the previous two. Robert Lewandowski has scored 12 goals in the Champions League this term with three of them coming from the penalty spot. Once again he is the main favorite to find the back of the net.

Bayern will definitely not underestimate Villarreal but they will be eager to return home with a win and approach the second leg full of confidence. The win against Freiburg also saw Leon Goretzka finally returning to the starting XI after four months. He is one of the most dynamic box-to-box midfielders in the world, and also that there are very few midfielders who you would even consider swapping him out for.

Last year’s semifinalist, Real Madrid travels to play the Champions League reigning champs Chelsea. This is a tough match to call but always remember we also have the draw as a soccer betting choice. La Liga leaders consolidate their leading spot with an unimpressive 2-1 on the road against Celta Vigo while Chelsea saw their six-game unbeaten run across all competitions come to an end last weekend when they shockingly lost 4-1 to Brentford with manager Thomas Tuchel blaming the international break, lack of maturity and even the weather.

That humiliation is not exactly what Chelsea wanted before such an important match. But Chelsea has the upper hand on Real Madrid after knocking them out of the Champions League last term and will try to solve the qualification issues from the first leg. It won’t be easy against Real Madrid but Chelsea are the masters of knockout games and they are favored to qualify in the semis being priced at -120.

This game should be closer than the odds suggest and we don’t expect the two managers to risk it all in the first leg. The goal line is set at 2.5 and we expect a cagey match so the best way to approach the goals’ market is to go with the unders.

We also don’t see a winner in the first leg so we tend to go with the draw but we have something else in mind. The first half of the match will definitely be a quiet one, so for our official pick, we’re going with under one goal in the first half. We will also sprinkle a small stake on a draw at halftime which is priced at +110 with Bet365.
