Today is the day. It's the Champions League Final. Liverpool vs Real Madrid. Can we expect an abundance of goals today? Lightning Locks answers.

Champions League Final Predictions: Can We Expect Goals From Liverpool and Real Madrid?

You know you are going to watch this game so why not make a little money on it while you are at it (sounds good right). This is probably the most-watched soccer event which is why it's on CBS as we have the UEFA Champions League final from Saint-Denis, France today (originally scheduled for Russia but clearly the only war will be on the field in France).

We have two teams with huge followings and huge stars in Liverpool and Real Madrid in today's final, which is also a rematch of the 2018 Final. Real has already won the La Liga Crown and would love to add the Champions League trophy, while Liverpool is trying to win their third trophy of the season which might make up for the disappointment of losing the Premier League title.

These two teams have a combined nineteen yes we said nineteen European Cups between them so this game should be intense and might come down to which team's star delivers first. Here is my prediction, pick, and the odds for the Champions League Final between Liverpool and Real Madrid.

 Liverpool vs. Real Madrid Prediction

We start with Liverpool who has had a very easy journey to get here today with a win over Inter Milan two-one on aggregate, and then Benfica six-four, and finally Villarreal five-two to get here today.  Liverpool and Real both play a 4-3-3 formation but if Liverpool is missing any of their injured guys,(Thiago Alcantara, if he does play, will be limited and missing defensive guys will be key) it could affect the game tremendously. But, let's be honest, the offense will win this game and Liverpool has a front three that could be considered a little bit like the  Edmonton Oilers of soccer.

We have Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and now Luis Diaz. This team is going to put a lot of pressure on the Real backline today.  We feel Salah will be the guy to get it started for Liverpool with a first-half goal which will open up this match as we see a higher scoring first half and more defense in the second.  Liverpool is a bad opponent for Real because of their advantage in speed and how they play this game attacking nonstop. With a team, this skilled we expect a few goals from Liverpool as they also know possibly the best player in Karim Benzema (Cristiano Ronaldo anyone, wink) is on the other side and he is going to do everything he can to score.

Liverpool got here with a path that we consider to be pretty easy, while Real Madrid got here beating the best teams in Europe, with wins over PSG (Paris Saint- Germain), Chelsea, and Manchester City and they could have lost any of them but they have shown a lot of heart and mental toughness to get to this point.  Liverpool has their big three, well so does Real even though they are a little older than the big three of Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, and Casemiro who will have some trouble keeping up with the speed, and youth of  Liverpool as we saw in the PSG match, you can beat this team with speed and that is clearly what Liverpool's plan will be.

Real does have of course Karim Benzema who scored three goals against PSG and will have to score today to keep Real in the game and we expect a goal from him as well to keep pace with Liverpool and Salah.  Liverpool has been a first-half team all year while Real has been a second-half team evidenced by the fact that Benzema has scored in the second half of the last five knockout matches.

We know who the better team is even if they had an easier path to get here. We know both teams are playing for a trophy so it will be all hands on deck. One team is better than another and in a one-game match they usually pull it out, but what we are looking at is the offense of this game.

We have already said the stars should each get a goal and then someone will have to win in the second half which would win the over 2.5 -125 goals for this game if it hasn't gotten there already. With Benzema getting a lot of attention, (twenty goals in your last sixteen matches and scoring in twelve of your last fifteen starts will do that for you ) Vinicius Junior who has the speed to match Liverpool might be the key to Real's chances of winning this match.

In Real's last eleven Champions league games we have seen over 2.5 goals hit nine times. Liverpool has scored two or more goals in eleven of their last twelve Champions league games. The defenses are good, and the goalies are good, but when you have this much offensive firepower on both teams, you are left with only one choice and that's to watch the goals today as there should be a few of them.

Again, we are going to take over 2.5 goals -125 for this game and we feel very confident they should have at least three goals in this matchup today. Lastly, it does help when the refs keep those cards in their pocket and today's lead ref has been good at doing that all year, so as they say: LET THEM PLAY and let them score. Enjoy the Championship today. It should be a doozy.
