Euro 2020 Odds: Italy vs. Wales
Italy vs. Wales, it's going to be some game. Many are worried that it could be damp squib with Italy in the next round and Wales more than likely joining them but I'm not convinced by that.
Will Italy rest players? I think there's a strong chance of that. They may only be two points ahead of the Welsh and needing a point to secure the top spot, thanks for superior goal difference, but it's probably worth Roberto Mancini resting some of his top players and getting some of his fringe players some match time.
We know what Wales will bring to the table. They'll try and be tight at the back, let Kieffer Moore run wild at the top of the pitch and try to use his physical force to dominate Italy's backline, with Dan James trying to stretch Italy and keep them honest. Then it'll be Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey doing what they do best and playing with each other to fashion Wales' best chances. Watching Bale and Ramsey look for each other constantly reminds you of a schoolyard game but it's worked well for Wales over the past few years.
Despite two good results for Wales so far, this is a huge step up. The Swiss outplayed them but couldn't get a winner and the less said about 'dark horses' Turkey the better. This Italian side has far too much nous to be suckered in to one of Wales traps.
Regardless of whether we see Mancini name his star players on the pitch, it won't matter. The likes of Federicho Chiesa or Andrea Belotti would be very handy replacements in the forward positions and Italy do have some midfield depth, with their best player Marco Verratti still to actually play.
Sure, Italy don't need to win this game but they will and they'll continue the great form that we've seen from them throughout Euro 2020. At odds of +160 it feels like there is huge value on backing the Italians to cover the -1 goal handicap.
