Week one is in the books for the 2022-23 LaLiga season, as the teams who finished high last year are already finding success with Villareal and Atletico Madrid storming out of the gates with 3-0 wins.

Let’s take a closer look at week two's matchups, and see where the value lies.

Sevilla vs. Valladolid Prediction

The first matchup I’m keyed in on is a Friday matchup between Sevilla and Valladolid. Sevilla had a successful season in 2021-22 in which they moved up to the fourth and final Champions League berth in the final weeks. They did however get off to a less than ideal start last week, losing to Osasuna 2-1 after a penalty kick in the 74th minute. There were a total of eight yellow cards issued in the back-and-forth contest as Sevilla struggled to establish their tempo, particularly in the second half.

The first game for Valladolid after being promoted in the off-season went roughly, as expected, with a 0-3 loss against Villareal in a match that was locked 0-0 at the half. With no strikers of high-level caliber, it will likely be a long season for Valladolid, who I expect to fall to 0-2 in their second game of the season.

Sevilla vs. Valladolid Pick

Pick: Sevilla -180 (Bet $180 to win $100)

Celta Vigo vs Real Madrid Prediction

Real Madrid is entering this season with extremely high hopes after winning La Liga by a 13-point margin last year. In week one, those expectations may have gotten the better of them as they conceded a goal early on to newly promoted Almeria on the road and didn't score until late in the second half.

Real Madrid ultimately won 2-1, scoring twice despite having 29 shots, 15 of which were on goal, throughout the course of the 90 minutes.

Before conceding a penalty shot in the final seconds of extra time, Celta Viga had a 2-1 victory in their sights. It's also worth mentioning that Celta Vigo committed 17 fouls during the game and received five yellow cards, including one for each member of their defensive line. A storyline certainly to keep an eye on this week against some of the best strikers in the world at Real Madrid.

Real Madrid will have had a full week to recover after playing their first encounter on little rest following a match in the UEFA Super Cup in the days prior. Real Madrid also has the advantage of coming into this match with four straight wins over Celta Vigo including seven of their past eight (the other one a draw).

Clearly having their number over the past decade combined with the added rest and slow start in week one, I expect the reigning champions to improve to 2-0 after this week.

Celta Vigo vs Real Madrid Pick

Pick: Real Madrid -145 (Bet $145 to win $100)
