Another weekend of Major League Soccer action is upon us and as usual there’s no shortage of stories and plot lines to draw. Both the Philadelphia Union and Los Angeles FC will be looking to stretch their legs at the top of their respective conferences while Sporting KC have some poor form to turn around. Here are four tips for the weekend.
Philadelphia Union v Orlando City
Talen Energy Stadium, Saturday July 6
This is a rematch of the midweek fixture between these two teams which saw the Philadelphia Union further solidify their place at the top of the Eastern Conference with a 3-1 away win over Orlando City. Now, Jim Curtin’s side are back at Talen Energy Stadium and will be looking to once again assert their dominance over the Floridians.
There has been an average of four goals per match in each of the last five meetings between these two sides so one should expect goals from this fixture. The Union will be without Marco Fabian and Andre Blake, who are away on International duty for this match. Cristian Higuita and Joao Moutinho are injury doubts for the visitors with Robin Jansson and Sacha Kljestan both suspended.

FC Cincinatti v Houston Dynamo
Nippert Stadium, Saturday July 6
Times have been tough for FC Cincinnati of late. They have lost all of their last six matches in MLS, conceding seven in their last match away to Minnesota United. Many expect the club to make a managerial change soon, but for the time being FC Cincinnati are the whipping boys of MLS, illustrated by the fact they have conceded at least twice in each of their last six outings.
The Houston Dynamo’s away form recently hasn’t been so hot either with the Texans losing all of their last six games on the road. They have also conceded at least twice in two of their last three away matches. But against a struggling FC Cincinnati side the Dynamo should stand a better chance of a better result.

Sporting KC v Chicago Fire
Children’s Mercy Park, Saturday July 6
This hasn’t been the best spell for Sporting KC. They come into this match having won just two of their last is MLS matches and they will be without Johnny Russell, Botond Barath, Jimmy Medranda, and Graham Zusi, who are all injury doubts, for this home game.
The Chicago Fire snapped a six-game winless run with a highly impressive 5-1 victory over Atlanta United during the week, but now they must back that up and show it wasn’t just a fluke result. Sporting KC have won their last three matches in competitions against Chicago, but have conceded at least twice in six of their last seven games at Children’s Mercy Park.
1u - Back Both Teams To Score @ -181
Los Angeles FC v Vancouver Whitecaps
Banc of California Stadium, Saturday July 6
They are still the team to beat in the Western Conference and in MLS in general this season. Indeed, Los Angeles FC have looked like the real from the very first week of the 2019 campaign and nothing has changed since then, with Bob Bradley’s side claiming a 5-1 win over Sporting KC during the week.
LAFC have scored at least twice in nine of their last 11 games at Banc of California Stadium. They have also won seven of their last eight homes games, while the Vancouver Whitecaps have failed to win nine of their last 10 games on the road. This trend looks set to continue for at least another weekend.
