MLS Picks: Minnesota United vs. LA Galaxy Prediction
Last season might have been a disappointing one for the LA Galaxy, but 2021 has been much more encouraging year for the Carson club. While Greg Vanney hasn’t yet moulded the team entirely in his own image, there are signs of progress with the Galaxy currently sitting third in the Western Conference.
Minnesota United can be satisfied with their current fifth place standing, just six points adrift of the Galaxy, but there is still work to be done before they can be certain of their spot in the play-offs. Here are some tips and predictions ahead of the Major League Soccer meeting between Minnesota United and the LA Galaxy on Saturday August 14.
Minnesota United vs. LA Galaxy Prediction
Where: Allianz Field
When: Saturday, August 14 at 6:00 pm ET
A week of rest after three games in eights appeared to do Minnesota United the world of good as they claimed a comfortable 2-0 win over the Houston Dynamo in their last league outing. Brent Kallman was the star man for the Loons in that game, finding the back of the net and holding firm in defence. He will be important once again against the LA Galaxy.
Only Sporting KC (33) have scored more goals in the Western Conference than the LA Galaxy (29) this season. Indeed, their potency as an attacking outfit is underlined by the fact there has been over 2.5 goals scored in their last eight MLS games on the road. Looking at the historic track record, there has also been over 2.5 goals in six of the last seven meetings between the Galaxy and Minnesota United.
However, the Loons are strong at home having won six of their last games played at Allianz Field. That advantage could be key against an LA Galaxy team who have had their troubles on the road this season (while the Galaxy sit top of the West on home results, they are only fifth on the basis of their away form).
What’s more, Minnesota United have kept a clean sheet in five of their last seven home matches. If there’s an opposition team in the Western Conference that can keep the LA Galaxy at arm’s length, it’s Adrian Heath’s side. This could be a tight encounter between two teams with the quality to claim three points.
