There is a big one coming up in the MLS Eastern Conference. New England Revolution vs. DC United prediction and picks from MLS expert Graham Ruthven ahead of Wednesday's game
ANALYSIS

New England Revolution vs. DC United Prediction & Picks

The New England Revolution’s transformation under Bruce Arena has been remarkable. Appointed at Gillette Stadium in 2019 with his coaching stock lower than it had been in a long time, there were signs of progress last season as the Revs made the Eastern Conference finals, but their development has truly manifested itself on the pitch in 2021.

Indeed, New England’s position at the top of the Eastern Conference, and the overall standings, is a reflection of their current dominance. DC United’s form has been far patchier with Hernan Losada’s side currently sitting sixth in the East where they could quite easily fall out of the play-off places.

Here are some tips and predictions ahead of the Major League Soccer fixture between the New England Revolution and DC United on Wednesday August 18.

New England Revolution vs. DC United odds

The omens are good for the New England Revolution ahead of this fixture. Arena’s side have won eight of their last 10 MLS games played at Gillette Stadium. Their overall form is also very strong at the moment having won six of their last seven matches. Indeed, the Revs are the form team in the Eastern Conference right now.

New England have also been winning at both half time and full time in five of their last seven league matches and have won their last four meetings with east coast rivals, DC United. Fresh from a 2-1 away win over Toronto FC, the Revolution are in good shape even as they have rotated some squad options in recent weeks.

On the flip side of this fixture, DC United suffered a damaging 5-2 defeat to Nashville in their last outing. This ended an unbeaten run of five straight MLS games for Losada’s team, but looking at the bigger picture DC United have won just four of their last 10 fixtures. They are doing just enough to stay in the play-off spots, but no more.

Most critically, DC United have conceded 10 times in their last three games. There has also been over 2.5 total goals scored in five of their last six matches on the road. This can’t be allowed to continue otherwise Losada and his players could find themselves missing out on the MLS post-season.
