LAFC vs. LA Galaxy Predictions

Los Angeles FC and the LA Galaxy might only have met each other for the first time in 2018 following the former’s expansion to Major League Soccer, but the rivalry they have forged since has become one of the fiercest in American soccer. This weekend’s clash promises to be another must-watch event.

These are two clubs with big ambitions, although the Galaxy are much closer to realising those ambitions this season than LAFC, with Greg Vanney’s team currently sitting in fourth place in the West and Bob Bradley’s side outside the playoff spots in ninth. Here are some tips and predictions ahead of the MLS fixture between LAFC and the LA Galaxy on Saturday August 28.

LAFC vs. LA Galaxy

LAFC vs. LA Galaxy odds

While LAFC looked to have turned around their season in July with four wins from five games, Bradley’s team come into this fixture on the back of four straight defeats. Going even further back, they are without a win in seven matches with their last MLS victory coming against Real Salt Lake on July 18.

Quite simply, LAFC are leaking two many goals having conceded at least twice in six of their last seven league matches. Bradley will need to instil some defensive solidity to keep the LA Galaxy at arm’s length this weekend otherwise the Carson club could put their closest rivals to the sword with their attacking talent.

The LA Galaxy are also in relatively poor form at the moment having lost two games on the spin. While the 4-1 win over the Portland Timbers in late July appeared to have set up Vanney and his players for a good final phase of the regular season, there are signs that things are starting to crumble at Dignity Health Sports Park.

This derby will be poorer for the potential absence of Javier Hernandez and Carlos Vela, both of whom were ruled out of the mid-week MLS All-Star game through injury. Hernandez could return, but it’s doubtful the Mexican forward will be fit enough to start the match. Even if it’s only off the bench, he could make an impact.
