NYFC vs. New England Revolution Prediction

Everyone in Major League Soccer right now is chasing the New England Revolution. Indeed, Bruce Arena’s side currently sit at the top of the Eastern Conference, and the overall standings, having won 15 of the 22 games they have played this season. The Revs are the team to be in MLS at this moment in time.

New York City FC are also enjoying an encouraging season, with Ronny Deila’s side currently sitting comfortably in the playoff places. This has the potential to be one of the most compelling fixtures in MLS this weekend with both teams capable of picking up all three points. Here are some tips and predictions ahead of the match between NYC FC and New England.

The omens are good for NYC FC ahead of this one with Deila’s side having won their last six league matches at home. Yankee Stadium might be MLS’s most unusual venue, with it being a baseball stadium, but its soccer-playing tenants have made the most of it to establish genuine home field advantage this season.

However, the New England Revolution have won eight of their last nine fixtures in MLS - they are on a four-game winning streak. What’s more, Arena’s team have been in fine form in front of goal recently having netted seven times in their last two outings against DC United and FC Cincinnati. Their threat in the attacking third is obvious.

Even without Carles Gil, who is rehabbing from injury, the Revs have managed to maintain their threat. The 28-year-old, who has notched two goals and 11 assists in just 17 league appearances this season, is expected to return to action soon, but this particular fixture will almost certainly come too early for him.

Valentin Castellanos will offer a threat of his own on Saturday night with the Argentine attacker in a rich vein of form right now - he has registered four goals and three assists in his last six outings for NYC FC. There may be fiercer fixtures played elsewhere in ‘Rivalry Week,’ but these two teams could produce a high quality encounter with plenty on the line.
