There are so many great football matches this weekend, but this isn’t one I’m particularly looking forward to. So rarely does this fixture live up to its billing, and I’m expecting another dull Merseyside Derby on Sunday.
We’ve seen just three goals in the last four matches at Goodison Park between these two, and while Jordan Pickford’s howler made for an entertaining finale in the reverse fixture this season, the rest of the match was dire.
Therefore, my first tip is for under 2.5 goals to be scored.
Liverpool’s away games have seen over 2.5 goals scored just 43% of the time, and while their thumping of Watford on Wednesday was a strong statement, I see Sunday’s clash taking a different shape.
My second tip is perhaps an extension of my first, but with plenty more value: I’m expecting the score to be 0-0 at half-time.
Everton have gone into the break goalless 12 times this season – which is a huge number – and Liverpool’s joint-favourite half-time score away from home is also 0-0.
There’s always the temptation to back goals whenever Liverpool are concerned, but recent history is hard to ignore, hence why my enthusiasm is somewhat curbed for this one.
