Premier League Picks: Manchester United vs. Leeds Prediction

Manchester United Going for the Title?

The Red Devils finished 2nd last season, 12 points behind reigning champs Man City. It’s true that Liverpool’s injury issues and Chelsea’s squad reconstruction helped them end the season as the best from the rest. This term there are many teams out there who can go all the way and we don’t expect Man United to be one of them.

Yes, we believe they will finish in top 4 and even fight with Liverpool for a top 3 finish, but City and Chelsea look too strong right now. There’s plenty of time left till the transfer window will close and United are keen to add some more value to their squad.

They already signed Jadon Sancho from Dortmund while Raphael Varane is undergoing the first part of his Man United medical ahead of completing his transfer from La Liga’s heavyweights Real Madrid. Ole Gunnar Solskajer has signed a new three-year contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2024. Solskjaer has won 84 of his 151 games as manager and led the team to a 2nd-place finish last term.

Manchester United vs. Leeds Player to Watch: Edison Cavani

The Uruguayan forward arrived at Old Trafford on transfer deadline day last October. He scored 17-goals in 39 appearances (10 in Premier League). The striker signed a one-year contract extension at the club and is expected to return to the squad on Saturday after being rested during the pre-season friendlies.

Despite being 34-year-old, his commitment, impact, influence on other players, are top notch. Let’s not forget about his amazing skills and quality. He’s crucial for United’s attack and he is the player to watch. If he will stay away from getting injured, he can easily score at least 20 goals this season. He’s priced at +110 with Unibet to be anytime goalscorer.

Leeds in the European Competitions?

Leeds were the revelation of the season last year. They were impressive on their return to the top-flight league after 16 years, finishing 9th in the standings, missing the European spots by just 3 points. They had a busy summer, bringing in 4 new players: Junior Firpo from Barcelona, Jack Harrison from Man City, Lewis Bate from Chelsea and Kristoffer Klaesson from Valerenga.

Under the charismatic leadership of manager Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds are a great team to watch but they need to bring in more players with experience if they want to play in the European competitions next season. They are packed with many talented youngsters, but they need more than that to play in Europe. We expect many great games and high-scoring affairs from Leeds, but we don’t see them finishing in top 8.

After a stellar Euro 2020, one of Leeds’ best players, Kalvin Phillips, is ready for a great season. Young, physically strong but also great technically, Phillips was linked with Liverpool this summer, but Bielsa wants to keep hold of his prized asset and have him one more season in the squad.

Leeds played 7 pre-season friendly games winning just 1 (3-2 against Guiseley) and losing 4 games in the process. Diego Llorente, Junior Firpo and Jamie Shackleton could all miss this fixture through injury. On the other side, Marcus Rashford expected to miss out due to a shoulder injury while Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho are also doubts for the game against Leeds.

Leeds will be seeking revenge at Old Trafford after their heavy 6-2 defeat on their last trip. Another end-to-end game is very likely with United being deadly on the break and trying to kick-off their season in style.

We’ve seen over 2.5 goals in 3 of the last 4 head-to-heads between the 2 teams and we expect another high-scoring affair but the price for over 2.5 goals in the game has no value (-160 with DraftKings). But where’s the value? The Red Devils look very strong right now and we expect them to win this game in front of their fans.

For the 1st 2 weeks, it’s very important to check the starting lineups as many players might be rested after a long summer packed with Euro 2020, Copa America, Gold Cup and Olympic games.
