Man City Returned to Winning Ways
After a poor start to their Premier League campaign with Tottenham beating them in their season opener, Man City’s players have vowed to bounce back, and they did. The reigning champs destroyed the newly promoted side, Norwich, beating them 5-0 with Raheem Sterling, Riyad Mahrez and former Aston Villa winger Jack Grealish contributing on the scoreboard.
Pep Guardiola explained the defeat against Tottenham saying that many players were handed an extended break following the summer international competitions, but everything is back to normal. Kevin de Bruyne, Phil Foden and John Stones were not among the player who made their return for Norwich clash. Guardiola preferred not to force de Bruyne last weekend and have him ready and fit for the clash against Arsenal while Phil Foden will be ready after the international break after sustaining a foot injury during England’s EURO 2020 campaign.
With the transfer window closing in few days, Pep Guardiola is still searching for Sergio Aguero’s replacement. Harry Kane was his top priority, but Spurs remain determined not to lose their striker denying every single bid. England’s captain issued a statement saying he’s 100% focused on Spurs, accepting he will not be joining the Citizens this summer. Pep is now interested in signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus on a free transfer, offering him a two-year contract. He doesn’t entirely fit the profile of the player Guardiola is looking for but he’s a marketing bomb and the Premier League will add some extra value to their league.
Arsenal Huge Underdogs
For the 1st time in their head-to-heads against Man City, Arsenal are priced at +1200 to win the match. The Gunners kicked off their campaign with a disappointing 2-0 defeat to newly promoted Brentford, losing also the 2nd fixture (no surprise) 2-0 to Chelsea. Two games, 2 defeats, 4 goals conceded, 0 goals netted, 19th place in the standings. This is just the 3rd time Arsenal are losing both of their opening games.
The fans booed Mikel Arteta confronting him in his car after the derby. #ArtetaOut was trending during the match with the fans being frustrated with the current situation. He’s under increasing pressure and if last week the reports were saying he’s backed by the club chiefs, this week Brendan Rogers, Antonio Conte or Eddie Howe have been linked to the Arsenal job.
Meanwhile… Arsenal, with their best starting XI, beat West Brom’s kids (relegated from the top-flight league last season) 6-0 in the EFL Cup. This result will surely build their confidence for the next games but beating a Championship club’s reserves is not something you wish to add to your CV if you are Arteta.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a hat-trick, Nicolas Pépé, Bukayo Saka and Alexandre Lacazette contributed on the scoreboard while Martin Ødegaard and Aaron Ramsdale made their debuts for the Gunners. They probably need 2-3 matches before playing Man City, but the schedule is not their friend. Arsenal are huge underdogs against Man City with the bookies expecting the Citizens to easily cover the -1.5 Asian Handicap.
Man City vs. Arsenal Prediction
It’s very tough to find some betting value for this game. A third defeat in a row for Arsenal will probably mean the end for Arteta. The visitors have won just once in their last 10 outings against Man City. Guardiola will take on his former assistant coach so we can imagine how well he knows him.
The hosts have won five of their last six mutual encounters with the Gunners and have kept clean sheets in four of those wins. Yes, Arsenal scored 6 against West Brom but even if you are a stats capper, you should not even touch on that game because you should be aware of the circumstances.
So, what’s the best bet? Man City have all the weapons to cover the -1.5 Asian Handicap but also to lead at half-time (better odds). Win to nil looks promising but I’m not a fan of that market because you never know when a mistake will happen. Here are our 2 betting picks for this clash:
