Chelsea vs. Manchester City Odds
Last week it was almost perfect for us in Premier League. We cashed all five single bets (Chelsea moneyline, Liverpool HT/FT, Liverpool to score in both halves, Sadio Mane anytime goalscorer, Man United moneyline, and Man United Team Total Over 1.5 goals). So it’s time for another weekend full of action in the Premier League, and we are here to share our top plays for round 6.
Chelsea vs. Manchester City Prediction
Is Chelsea Consistent Enough?
Under Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea has become one of the most consistent Premier League clubs. They are a superpower but still trying to become regular challengers for the title. They won the Champions League last season, and their main objective is to win the domestic title at the end of this term.
Great solidity at the back, impressive attacking quality, and intelligent tactics are only a few reasons for Chelsea’s consistency. The Blues have kicked off their EPL campaign with four wins and a draw in their opening five fixtures and currently sit joint top of the table alongside Liverpool (equal on points, goals scored, and goals conceded)
They improved their squad by signing Romelu Lukaku, one of the best deep-lying forwards in football. He added even more quality to an already highly efficient team. His hold-up play and movement in the opposition box are exactly what Chelsea was missing. The abundance of talent, skills, experience, and resources from the bench is impossible not to be admired.
Shot-Shy City Frustrated by the Saints
After a poor start to their domestic season, losing to Tottenham, Man City bounced back and scored 11 goals in 3 games (despite not landing Harry Kane in the summer), and we all thought they would add 3 more points to their season tally last weekend when they faced Southampton.
The mighty VAR denied Raheem Sterling a late winner for offside, but the Citizens looked a bit flat and disjointed. The lack of shots on target (they ended the game with just 1) is a big problem for Pep and Company as they face the most organized defensive side in the league.
City spent most of the available transfer funds on Jack Grealish but have failed to replicate their last season’s form. This is by far the most difficult test of the season for the Citizens, and we will finally see what they are made of.
Chelsea vs. Man City Picks
Chelsea usually dominates their opponents, but against names like Liverpool or Man City, they are happy to give away the ball and strangely control the game without having possession. Let’s remember the tactical masterpiece against Liverpool. They played with one man down in the second half, and despite Liverpool’s pressure and 19 shots, Chelsea never looked to be in great danger, calmly holding their gifted opponents.
Chelsea certainly had the edge over Man City last season, beating them in their previous three head-to-head: in the FA Cup, on the road in the Premier League, culminating in a Champions League final 1-0 victory with Tuchel’s boys lifting the trophy, so Guardiola will be eager to take revenge.
Both teams played in the midweek EFL Cup action, with both qualifying in the round of 16. Man City bet Wycombe 6-1 while Chelsea was forced to play extra-time and penalties against Aston Villa. They both rested some of their key players.
We expect a cagey match with the Citizens controlling the ball and Chelsea being deadly on the break. The two teams have the best defense in the league with just one goal conceded in five games, but they are both great going forward. As a result, the odds are very balanced, and it’s tough to pick a winner.
The bookies don’t expect a high-scoring match between two teams with fluid gameplay, but we will go against the bookies. We are going for over 2.5 goals in the game, plus we expect Romelu Lukaku, who always delivers against world-class opponents.
