Southampton vs. Newcastle - Sunday, January 2 - 9:00 am ET
Southampton vs. Newcastle Odds
The Premier League festive period comes to an end this weekend with the top four teams playing in other, but as always, there's value also elsewhere. Southampton is enjoying a fine run of form at the moment, being unbeaten in their previous three games. Southampton has lost just once at home in the Premier League this season, with that loss coming against Wolves back in September, but they are the kings of home draw games, recording six in nine games.
Southampton recorded an impressive win over West Ham United on Boxing Day. It is the first time they have found the back of the net three times in a Premier League clash this term. Unfortunately, they failed to double it up with another win over Tottenham in the midweek round. They played great in the first half of the match, scoring the opening goal and having three more great chances to make it 2-0. Unfortunately, Mohammed Salisu got red-carded in the 39th minute, and Harry Kane scored the equalizer from the penalty spot. Despite playing the entire second half with one man down, the Saints managed to keep Spurs to a 1-1 draw, and they enter this game full of confidence.
Captain and midfielder James Ward-Prowse is on fire for the Saints. He scored in each of his last three Premier League appearances offering an assist in the process. As a result, we expect the hosts to start the game on the front foot and be rewarded with an early goal. On the other side, Newcastle surprisingly kept Man United to a 1-1 draw on Monday in a game in which they could only name eight substitutes, including two goalkeepers.
On Thursday, their match away at Everton has been postponed due to injuries and COVID cases in Eddie Howe's squad. On top of that, they lost Allan Saint-Maximin, Callum Wilson, and Ryan Fraser to injuries against the Red Devils. At the same time, full-back Javier Manquillo picked up his fifth yellow card of the season and is suspended for this clash.

Chelsea vs. Liverpool - Sunday, January 2 - 11:30 am ET
Second and third in standings, Chelsea and Liverpool are going head-to-head this weekend in the Premier League. They will both be desperate not to lose track with leaders Man City, who sits eight points clear at the top of the table. Both teams dropped points in the midweek round, with Chelsea being kept to a 1-1 draw by Brighton while Liverpool lost their second game of the season 1-0 to depleted Leicester.
Despite having the second-best defense in the league, Chelsea conceded in seven of their previous eight Premier League games with Thomas Tuchel confronted with many injury issues and COVID. Ben Chilwell is likely to miss the rest of the season after the club confirmed he would undergo knee surgery. In addition, Kai Havertz was on the bench following his covid isolation; Thiago Silva is out with a hamstring injury; Timo Werner is fighting for fitness following a rough period with covid, which has forced the Chelsea forward to miss his side's last five matches across all competitions. As a result, Chelsea earned just nine from possible 18 points and dropped 11 points from the leading position this term, more than they did in the entire last season.
Jurgen Klopp's side has picked up a single point from their last two matches. They are sitting third, one point behind Chelsea but having a game in hand on them. Sunday's clash against Chelsea will be the last game the trio Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Naby Keita will be involved in as they will all fly to Cameroon for the African Cup of Nation, which starts on January 9. Mo Salah has missed a penalty against Leicester for the first time since 2017, while Sadio Mane has failed to find the back of the net in his last nine appearances across all competitions.
A draw won't help Chelsea and Liverpool. Instead, we expect a high-scoring affair with both teams expected to enter this game all guns blazing.
