Roy Hodgson has been a solid coach with a great career. He managed England between 2012 and 2016 and managed to keep Crystal Palace safe year in and year out. He stepped down from Crystal Palace at the end of last season announcing his retirement. Somehow, Watford signed the 74-year-old replacing Claudio Ranieri who was sacked after consistently poor form. Is he the right person to save the Hornets?
That’s a great question. We respect him and his ability to keep Crystal Palace safe, but his old-school tactics are not exactly what Watford needs right now. Watford managed to keep Burnley to a goalless draw in Hodgson’s first match as their manager, but they immediately returned to losing ways in the midweek action, having just one shot on target in the 1-0 away defeat to West Ham.
They recorded their last Premier League win back in November pulling off the upset against Man United. They are winless in their previous 10 league games losing eight in the process. They failed to find the back of the net in four of their last five EPL games. In other words, they are a team to fade no matter if they are playing home or away. So, they have not taken a point off a team not in the bottom half of the table for nearly three months.
On the other side, Brighton has been a dream club for the betting world. They are unbeaten in their last six league games, winning just two in the process but they are one of the most consistent teams in the league, a team with a great fighting spirit. Brighton is unbeaten in each of their last four mutual encounters between the two sides since 2018, claiming two wins and two draws in that time.
They scored in eight straight games but conceded in each of their past seven. They have an amazing squad packed with talented players all over the pitch. They don’t have stars, but they are a team, and every single player is giving 100% in each match. Their attacking duo Neal Maupay and Leandro Trossard is the most underrated duo in the league. Trossard missed the FA Cup fourth-round clash against Tottenham last week, having tested positive for COVID, but he could return for Brighton's against Watford, eager to add some more goals to his season tally.
Their wing-back Marc Cucurella has impressed this term, both in a back five and back four catching the eye of Chelsea who is planning to sign him in the summer. Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross has been tipped to become a great asset for any big team in the European top five leagues with the 31-year-old out of contract in June. Brighton is brilliant to watch and given Watford’s struggles, we are going with the away win.

Frank Lampard lost his debut match with Everton in the Premier League with the Toffees allowing three goals in the 3-1 defeat on the road to Newcastle. They were outclassed by the Magpies and the defeat leaves them just two points above the danger zone. At home, Everton collected only four points in their last seven games with four of the last six home games ending with goals at both ends. The potential introductions of their new transfers Van de Beek and Dele Alli and the comeback of Dominic Calvert-Lewin to the starting lineup could breathe new life into an Everton side desperate for points.
On the other side, Marcelo Bielsa continues to be without Kalvin Phillips, Liam Cooper, Sam Greenwood, and Patrick Bamford. While Junior Firpo is not quite ready to return. Still, they remain the same attacking team with nothing to lose, offering us many thrilling matches no matter win or lose. They failed to find the back of the net in just two of their last nine Premier League fixtures (to Man City and Newcastle). We expect at least three goals in what should be one of the most entertaining matches of the round.
