Crystal Palace Breakdown
Crystal Palace surprised everybody last season. Patrick Vieira impressively changed Palace’s style in his first season in charge with the Eagles finishing 12th in the standings with a positive goal difference. Expectations have been raised for Palace's 2022/23 season and they managed to keep their spine adding some extra quality. They signed Cheick Doucoure from Lens and Chris Richards from Bayern Munich, two young and super talented players.
Securing Wilfried Zaha’s services with less than 12 months of his contract now remaining will definitely be the club’s main priority as the Ivory Coast international remains their best player. Zaha's impressive form as the leader of this team went under the radar last season and he will be eager to once again bring his A game in every match in case he stays at the club.
Crystal Palace is a tough nut to crack on their day and has troubled Arsenal on several occasions in the recent past. They enter this game after back-to-back wins over Queens Park Rangers and Montpellier in friendly fixtures, with their only two defeats in the pre-season campaign being against Liverpool and Montpellier. They managed to stay unbeaten in their last eight competitive home clashes across all competitions, keeping six clean sheets in the process.
The Eagles may be without the likes of Jack Butland, James McArthur, Sam Johnstone, and Michael Olise for this game due to injuries. McArthur's absence means that young Doucoure has a chance of earning a first competitive start for Palace. Jordan Ayew, Wilfried Zaha, and Odsonne Edouard started against Montpellier and are expected to lead the attacking line.
Arsenal Breakdown
There may be many flaws with Arsenal but its fans are certainly not one of them. The Gunners have one of the more passionate groups of supporters in all of England and they really deserve more. Let’s not even talk about last season, because Arsenal failed to finish in the top four, and let’s focus on what’s new.
They have been in excellent form under Mikel Arteta and were virtually unstoppable on their pre-season tour. They are a much-improved side from last year, and that will definitely show over the course of the Premier League season. However, we still can’t trust them. We must wait and what them in action for at least three-four rounds before backing them. Even their manager has urged the fans not to get carried away with the results from the pre-season campaign.
Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal? That has the early signs of being great. He arrives off the back of a decent end to the previous campaign having great Premier League experience. He will surely score many goals and make the fans happy. He already netted six goals in the pre-season campaign we are seriously thinking to back him on Friday.
Crystal Palace vs Arsenal Prediction
Palace will take major confidence from their mutual encounters against Arsenal in the last term. They managed to earn four points beating the Gunners 3-0 on home soil and keeping them to a 2-2 draw on the road. Games between the two sides always produce goals.
We’re not certain Arsenal is going to lose but we also aren’t sure we should back Arsenal on Matchday 1. That’s why we will skip the ML and go with goals as we expect an entertaining match between two attacking teams. On top of that, we are taking Gabriel Jesus to find the back of the net.
Crystal Palace vs Arsenal Picks
- Pick 1: Over 2.5 goals in the match at -105 (Bet $105 to win $100)
- Pick 2: Gabriel Jesus anytime goalscorer at +165 (Bet $100 to win $165)
