West Ham: Fighting for the European Spots

West Ham United head into the 2022/23 Premier League season full of confidence after back-to-back top seven finishes under David Moyes, the manager with the magic touch. He impressively transformed the Hammers from a relegation-threatened team to European contenders. Let’s not forget their Europa League superb run. They played European competition semifinals for the first time since 1976 but they got knocked out by Eintracht Frankfurt who eventually won the trophy beating Rangers in the finals.

West Ham has added depth to their squad in the summer transfer window and they also kept their best players, although pre-season results have been poor. They won just two of their seven friendlies, losing one in the process. They only failed to find the back of the net in their last fixture against Lens.

David Moyes’ troops managed to keep the Citizens to three consecutive draws at the London Stadium and they will once again try to pull off the upset. The Hammers had a busy summer transfer window, signing talented Gianluca Scamacca from Sassuolo, Nayef Aguerd from Rennes (who will miss this clash), Alphonse Areola from Paris Saint-Germain, and Flynn Downes from Swansea. Michail Antonio will still be their main weapon in the attacking line while Declan Rice will captain the team from the middle of the park, with Jarrod Bowen and Pablo Fornals expected to be positioned behind him.

Man City: A Fresh Look

The Premier League reining champs have finally signed a real striker. Erling Haaland is the name many are tipping to finish as the top scorer in his first Premier League season. He’s a born scorer and the numbers are there to confirm. Erling Haaland is very likely City's biggest signing since they landed Pep Guardiola and you will see us backing him to find the back of the net many times during this season.

City lost their opening game last season and they might not get things all their own way this time around either. They were also beaten 3-1 by Liverpool in this season’s Community Shield at the King Power Stadium in Leicester. Liverpool looked far sharper than City but we shouldn’t underestimate the Citizens. Manchester City has completed the signing of Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who undoubtedly will strengthen Pep’s squad.

Aymeric Laporte is not expected to be fit until September, while John Stones is lacking match fitness, so Nathan Ake should once again join Ruben Dias in the middle of the defense. Erling Haaland is set to make his Premier League debut for the Citizens, following his 90 minutes against Liverpool in the Community Shield last weekend.

West Ham vs. Man City Prediction

If you want some number, we’ve got you covered. West Ham United has played their first game of the season against the Citizens on three previous occasions and has lost all three of them, conceding 11 goals in the process. Manchester City is unbeaten in their last 13 matches against West Ham.

Man City will be desperate to go one better this Sunday and win the game after they slipped to a 3-1 defeat in the Community Shield last weekend. West Ham should have enough to contribute on the scoreboard but we don’t see them winning or picking up at least one point from this clash. For our top betting pick, we will combine the ML with the goals’ market.

West Ham vs. Man City Picks

Picks: Manchester City ML & Over 2.5 goals in the match at -120 (Bet $120 to win $100)
