France vs. Australia Prediction (Group D)

France’s World Cup hopes have taken a huge blow with the news that star striker Karim Benzema is out of the tournament after suffering an injury in training. France, already without Paul Pogba, N'Golo Kante, Presnel Kimpembe, Jules Kounde, and Christopher Nkunku because of injury, open their campaign against Australia in Group D on Tuesday.

Australia fought their way to the World Cup with a penalty shoot-out victory against Peru and are the underdogs in the group. The Socceroos were outclassed four years ago in Russia, finishing bottom of their group with just one point picked up in three games. There’s a huge lack of quality in their squad and we don’t expect them to score many goals or pull off upsets.

The two teams clashed in the 2018 edition of the competition, with France securing a narrow 2-1 victory on the day. France has reached the World Cup final in three of the last six editions, more than any other nation during this period. Despite being hit with so many injuries, France is blessed with a world-class squad. Kylian Mbappe is the favorite to win both the Golden Boot and the Golden Ball and we expect him to be the MVP of the match. Olivier Giroud has an extra motivation, sitting just two behind Thierry Henry’s 51 goals scored for Les Bleus.

Australia will set up with a low block with 11 players behind the ball, but France is too good going forward and will dominate the entire game. They would be looking to start their campaign with three points and we expect them to cover the spread.
