World Cup 2022: Belgium vs. Canada Same-Game Parlay Picks
Belgium (-230)
Belgium won six games—Estonia (twice), Belarus (twice), Wales, and Czech Republic—and drew twice to finish first in their group and qualify for the World Cup. In their eight games, they scored 25 goals, and they only allowed six goals altogether.
The 3-4-2-1 configuration, which has worked well for head coach Roberto Martinez throughout the years, is still a favorite of his. The two creative players behind Romelu Lukaku will be Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne, and this team will play aggressively and attack frequently.
Canada had to travel a long way to reach the World Cup after not qualifying since 1986 or even getting close since 1998. The Reds initially had to go through a tough first-round group of five teams that featured Aruba, Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, and Suriname, which they did so with an incredible +26 goal differential across the four games. The next round was a home-and-away series against Haiti, in which Canada won 4-0 overall.
Expectations were lower going into the championship round because of the aforementioned World Cup drought. But two 1-1 draws against Mexico at the Azteca and the United States on the road in the first and second qualification windows respectively showed that this Canada team was tougher than its predecessors.
While Canada is worthy to be here, I think we see the Belgian difference come down to Thibaut Courtois, the finest goalkeeper in the world, and De Bruyne, the best midfielder in the world. I see the talent disparity as too great for Canada to realistically compete in this one.
Anytime Goal Scorer - Kevin De Bruyne (+180)
At 31 years old and with 25 international goals under his belt, it’s safe to say the Manchester City star is coming into his prime at the right time for his Belgium side. While much of the attention will be spent on Belgium’s younger stars, look for De Bruyne to find pay dirt before this one is all said and done.
Under 2.5 (+100)
Although Canada may occasionally control the ball, they prefer to play strong defense and take teams apart on the break with the quickness of Alphonso Davies and Tajon Buchanan. They have also shown tactical adaptability in terms of formation, playing with four or three at the back as needed, but tend to favor a three-back formation.
While I’m not sure they have the skill up top to beat Belgium's back-line, I do think their defense will prove strong enough to limit a blowout in this one. In what I expect to be a 2-0 win for Belgium, I think under 2.5 at even money is a solid bet.
