USA vs. Iran Prediction

USA To Shutout (+210) Bet $100 to collect $310. BetMGM has the best odds, click here

We're at BetMGM for this one since it had the best price for this bet. DraftKings was a close second at +205. It should be noted that the bet is written "USA to win by shutout" over there. I looked at FanDuel but couldn't find anything similar whatsoever. I'm pretty sure they aren't into giving real options on team totals so I wasn't expecting a number from them. Still, if I was in charge, every book would be required by law to offer this bet. Firm, but fair.

Here's the thing, we've been here before with these guys. Back in 1998, the USA played Iran in the World Cup and lost 2-1. The Iranians would not even shake the United States players' hands before the match. They did still take a picture and also gave the US players white roses, which feels like a wild move but for whatever reason, they drew the line at shaking hands. At the end of the day, the game is more than just a soccer game to these people. They were legit calling the 1998 game a "battle against representatives of the Great Satan." Seems rude.

But this isn't 1998 and this US team is not even close to the same. We actually have a real talent on this team (no offense 1998 US National Team), with Tyler Adams Christian Pulisic, and many others. We literally just shut out England who boat-raced these Iranians 6-2 in the first game. People are going to see that Iran scored two goals against the Red Coats but one was a PK like 20 minutes after the game was supposed to be over. The other was a lucky shot that only happened because England was up 4-0. Iran was basically shut out by England.

Now the same people that think the two goals against England were good probably also think the two goals Iran scored against Wales were good too. Not true. Both came like 10 minutes after that game was supposed to be over. It was a 0-0 game at the 90+7 mark. What these Iranians are doing is waiting for their opponents to get tired and then sneaking goals in using the "guess how much time is left" timekeeping to their advantage. There is no way the US falls for that. We're too smart. I have this game as a 7-0 win for the US but I think the best bet is to just take them to win by shutout. Feels right.
