It’s at this point that things start to get real at Wimbledon. The early rounds are out of the way and there have already been some big name casualties on both the men’s and the women’s side. Friday will see Novak Djokovic back in action with a cracker of a tie between Simon Halep and Victoria Azarenka also to be played. Here are four tips for day 5 at the Championships.

Fernando Verdasco v Thomas Fabbiano

Wimbledon men’s singles third round, Friday July 5

Fernando Verdasco is a master of the five setter as he showed on Wednesday by coming from two sets down to beat Kyle Edmund on Centre Court. The Spaniard has made a career out of going the distance at the Grand Slams. Even at the age of 35, there are few on the tour who can claim to be as fit as Verdasco.

Thomas Fabbiano pulled off one of the upsets of the tournament so far by beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round. The Italian backed that up with a five set victory over Ivo Karlovic. Both these players come into this third round tie having played at least one five setter. Will that have an impact? How will Fabbiano cope if this goes the distance once again?

1u - Back Four Sets @ +170

Simona Halep v Victoria Azarenka

Wimbledon women’s singles third round, Friday July 5

This is the marquee match of the third round on both the men’s and the women’s side. Simona Halep picked up an injury in the first round and may have been affected by it in her last match, a three sets win over Mihaela Buzarnescu in which she won just 54% of her first serve points and 46% of her second serve points.

Halep will have to play much better if she is to see off Victoria Azarenka who beat Ajla Tomljanovic in straight sets in her last match. This is a clash between two former Grand Slam champions looking to improve their form and make the latter stages of the tournament. One of the will have to fall at this hurdle, though.

0.75u - Back Victoria Azarenka To Win @ -105

Polona Hercog v Coco Gauff

Wimbledon women’s singles third round, Friday July 5

Coco Gauff caused headlines around the world with her first round win over Venus Williams, but the 15-year-old’s second round win over Magdalena Rybarikova was arguably just as impressive. Indeed, the young American has yet to drop a set at this year’s Championships and is starting to look like a real contender.

Polona Hercog also pulled off a shock result of her own, beating Madison Keys in the second round. However, the Pole is not a grass court specialist and will come up against a force of nature in the form of Gauff who already looks like the complete player. It’s difficult to look past the American at this stage.

1.5u - Back Coco Gauff To Win @ -162

Novak Djokovic v Hubert Hurkacz

Wimbledon men’s singles third round, Friday July 5

The defending champion and world number one has been in imperious form in the opening two rounds of this year’s Championships. Indeed, Novak Djokovic looks to be on top of his game, seeing off Philipp Kohlschreiber and Denis Kudla without dropping a set in his opening two rounds. This should be another comfortable match for the Serbian.

Hubert Hurkacz comes into this match on the match of a second round win over Leandro Mayer. First serve percentage will be key for the 22-year-old if he is to stay competitive against Djokovic. Against Mayer, the Pole won 74% of his first serve points and got 70% of his first serves in play. He’ll need that sort of level, maybe even higher, against the world number one.

2u - Back Three Sets @ -466
