Here's our picks for today's US Open action
ANALYSIS

The US Open is up and running and the tournament will move into its second round on both the men’s and women’s side this Wednesday. There are a number of compelling ties with Ashleigh Barty, Stan Wawrinka, Venus Williams and Novak Djokovic all in action. Here are four tips for Wednesday’s matches at Flushing Meadows.

Lauren Davis v Ashleigh Barty

US Open women’s singles second round, Wednesday August 28

Ashleigh Barty was less than convincing in her first round win over Zarina Diyas, losing the first set 6-1 only to turn things arounds in three sets. However, the Australian is a renowned fighter, as demonstrated by her performances during the Cincinnati Masters where she reached the semi finals.

Lauren Davis enters this year’s US Open on the back of causing an almighty upset at Wimbledon just two months ago, with the American knocking out Angelique Kerber at SW19. Davis started her campaign at Flushing Meadows with a straight sets victory over Swedish qualifier Johanna Larsson, but this should be a comfortable match-up for Barty. The hard courts should suit her game.

1u - Back Ashleigh Barty 2-1 @ +350

Stan Wawrinka v Jeremy Chardy

US Open men’s singles second round, Wednesday August 28

Stan Wawrinka moved into the second round of the US Open with a four sets victory over Yannik Sinner. The Swiss was impressive, dominating the majority of the match and reeling off a number of trademark backhand winners. Wawrinka won close to 40% of his returning points against Sinner and broke his opponent five times.

However, Wawrinka was also broken four times himself. He struggled to find consistency on his serve and that could be a factor against Jeremy Chardy who won 65% of his service points in his first round opener. However, Wawrinka has won all five of his previous meetings with Chardy. He will have the edge in this contest.

0.75u - Back Jeremy Chardy First Set Winner @ +162

Elina Svitolina v Venus Williams

US Open women’s singles second round, Wednesday August 28

This is one of the heavyweight ties of the second round, with Elina Svitolina taking on Venus Williams at Flushing Meadows. By her usual standards, Svitolina hasn’t had the best of seasons and so the US Open represents her final chance to mount a challenge for a first Grand Slam championship.

Williams made a real statement with her 6-1, 6-0 demolition of Saisai Zheng in the first round and the veteran will need to find those sort of performance levels again to progress past Svitolina into the third round. This is one of the toughest second round ties to call, but Svitolina is in her prime while Williams might struggle to keep her form going.

1u - Back Elina Svitolina To Win @ -162

Novak Djokovic v Juan Ignacio Londero

US Open men’s singles second round, Wednesday August 28

Betting against Novak Djokovic at this year’s US Open isn’t advisable. The world number one is the clear frontrunner to go all the way at Flushing Meadows, backed up by his comprehensive first round win. Djokovic has made the US Open final in four of the last five years and this should be another step on a run deep into the tournament.

Juan Ignacio Londero pulled off an impressive first round win over Sam Querrey, facing down 24 aces from the American to triumph in four sets. The Argentinean has never made it this far at the US Open before. This is new territory for him and despite his shock win over Querrey it’s difficult to envisage him pulling off another upset here.

3u - Back Novak Djokovic 3-0 @ -400
